[IMG] If you have, did you feel ripped off when you bought and played Final Fantasy IX and realised it wasn't anywhere near as good?

Did you wonder why Squaresoft refuses to this day to do a next-gen sequel to it's only title ever to win the top score, 40 out of 40 in the Japanese computer games bible, Famitsu?  :flaming:

Do you think that Squaresoft should get off it's butt and give us a sequel to one of the few games in any genre that treats the gamer like an adult, or at least thinking person, instead of like a mewling child that can be spoon-fed any old crap as long as it is called Final Fantasy and comes with a fancy roman numeral at the end?

Put it this way, has any other game kept you wondering for months if the guy that you had played as, for over forty hours, was actually responsible for the death of a child and it's mother, worse, that the child and mother could be your own (ingame) family?

    I have, I did, I do, and I do, and I did.

    Just curious about things.

I can't stand that game. I bought precisely because it was Squaresoft's production. I liked Final Fantasy 6 and 7, I absolutely loved Chrono Trigger and Seiken Densetsu 3, and I really did like Parasite Eve and Chrono Cross as well. But Vagrant story.. it's too much about whacking and hacking and concentrating your efforts on more ways to hack and whack. Besides I couldn't help but get stuck in the game all the time for keeping over 2 weeks pauses here and there, so suddenly I had no idea where the hell I had to go to for all the gazillion maps and doors and potentially not fully explored rooms and found keys.

The battle system was great though. Finally a good combination of being able to control the character with your own skill and tactical sense, even though at the same time the actual "level" and experience and all would make a difference. A good idea of what a game should be like to not force skilled players to hack for hours on hours for experience just because the character isn't strong enough. And at the same time allow those less skilled players to make up for their inadequaecy by compensating this with the "character" based experience levels. The plot was good enough, though it did advance real slowly to the end. I have nothing against a sequel assuming they do something about the huge amount of mindless fighting and backtracking through areas re-inhabited by the thousands of enemies you've already killed thousands of times.
