Armor class confusion!

    Alright, i have played a lot of D&D, but i haven't really played many of the computer games, so me and a friend picked up IWD... now, the armor class system REALLY confuses me!
    We sit with two items:
    A splint mail, for 120GP, saying: "Armor class: 4"
    We also have a Leather armor, for 7GP saying: "Armor class: 8"...
    Now... at first sight, i would think that the Leather armor is best... but when my friend (A fighter) equips either of these armors, he looses the AC, it says, not gaining them... so we thought: "Well... maybe, it's because it's like a requirement, or something"... but then it wouldn't make sence, because then nothing, would be better than either of those armors, so what is it i doesn't understand??? :p

    For AC in AD&D (prior to the 3rd edition D&D), lower armor class (even into negative digits) is better.

    Allright, so how come the leather armor, for 7GP, give a better bonus, than the mail armor, for 120GP?

    It doesn't. AC 4 in Icewind Dale is significantly better than AC 8.

    As stated: Lower AC is better. So 4 < 8 means Splint Mail is better than Leather.

    Og found my mistake, by reading the tutorial on armors! it turns out, the desciption, in the game, shows what your armor will be fater equipping the item, not what armor it gives itself, i didn't know that, that number, was relative, to your current number!
