Ascension, finale

    How many people have made it through? How many peoples have made it through with a party of 4 including Imoen(*hint*)? And how many tries did that take, how certain could you be that you would succeed again with the same settings, so you'd be sure that the victory didn't come through luck alone?

    This is not a rant, a whine or anything like that. Simply a question. I tried around 10 times and never got even close. I'll get it done some day, perhaps with my next 6-people group then. Till that, I'd like to hear how many have beaten this and how.

    Also, is it really true that it's not possible to ever reach the high-level abilities of a mage with a fighter/mage/thief? My main is around 20 or above in fighter/thief professions. He got access to fighter skills already when the thief prof. reached the requirements for the high-level abilities. But even though he can easily afford 9:th level spells already, I've not gotten to choose any of the Improved Alactricities, Comets and suchlike mage high-level abilities.

    That's a bug that was never fixed. You can download a fix for it off SP (Editors, Hacks etc. somewhere).

    I'm almost tempted to call this shameless self-promotion, but ...

    I've addressed an approach to conquering approach to conquering Ascension. It's described in Dave Milward's walkthrough. It's a rather detailed and involved description, and I don't have the time right now to repeat it.

    What I will say is this ... Ascension is much easier when the party has a character that can both cast Time Stop, and use Greater Whirlwind Attack. This is limited to Fighter/Mage, Fighter/Thief (through Use Any Item ability), and Fighter/Mage/Thief. In your case, my approach may commend itself. For others, if they're set on a protagonist, I've recommended considering including Solaufein as an NPC.
