HHHmmm I realy need a new game. Are the Baldurs Gates for playstation just hack n slash or do they offer at least a minimum role playing experience.

These games just dont seem to translate as well on console.Though I did like the Lord of the Rings games even though you just basicaly fight from one scene to the next so that may be ok if the games is good.

It mostly just Hack and Slash, you get little quests from people but mostly you just run around doing the errands and swinging your weapons.

From what I've heard about the pervious game, if that's anything to judge by, it has very minimun playing time and 0 replay value. I might hire the game from the local video store once it's out, but I know for sure I'm not buying it.

First of all. The BG series to PC is NOT just hack and slash. It´s as much RPG as you can get in a PC, or Mac for that matter. The 2 best games ever made IMO. Buy them now and be caught forever.

I bought BG DA at the same time I bought my PS2. Started playing it the day after and finished it on the same day. So playtime is not that high. And since there only is one way to walk replay value aint that high either. I realized you could import characters and thought "Cool!". I set the difficulty to max and imported my Ranger I used to complete the game. Well, atleast I got a laugh. There was no change, not that I noticed anyway, in difficulty. So not even that made BG DA better.

Well, with that said let´s move on to the topic shall we? :)

BG DA2... Well, I am a sucker for anything that has Baldurs Gate in the title. Even bought "Baldurs Gate Chapters 1 & 2" a couple of months ago, which I guess was some sort of demo before BG was released, just to have everything in my game shelf :)
So yeah, I´m gonna buy it the day it´s being released over here. Looks like it´s gonna be like BG DA1, but what can you do eh?

No replayability? What are you people talking about?
First off, complete the game once and you get to play "The Gauntlet" which by finishing unlocks extremem mode. Beat extreme mode and you unlock the ability to play as the drow, Lotor.
Extreme mode is tough. You choose a previous save game and use that character, but you lose all weapons and money and have to start from scratch but you can keep the level.
You have potentially four classes, three from the start, to take through the game solo. In my opinion the drawf is the most challanging.
Resart and see how long it takes to get to the max level, level 40.
Then there is two player co-op mode.
Want a change? Start a brand new game on hard. Immediately save the game. Start a new game on extreme, then use the character you just saved on hard. That will give you a major challange.
Now, you've got the cheat codes. Use a game shark to give you infinite health, mana, money and weight. Just go through and beat the $%$#$%$ out of everything.
Use the warp cheat to go into the tower. With invulnerability on, run through and just collect stuff. Do this on extreme by the way so you get the best items. Then, warp back to the tavern and start the game with the best armor, weapons, magic items etc.
Start a game any way you want. But this time, try to use as many tactics other than just hack and slash. For example, in the theive's guild, there is a hallway with a lot of boxes. In the previous room there are exploding barrels. Move the barrels to the hallway to the end. Move boxes to create a barrier in the hallway. In the next room are four theives. Open the door, light a barrel and jump over the boxes. The theives can't get to you and kablooey. Theif guts everywhere. Do stuff like that.
My friend and I always start a co-op game, but we see who can get the most gold, items, etc.
Give yourself armor limits, for example you can only use leather armor.
    Tons of replayability!

That´s not replayability, that´s just playing around. The story doesn´t change at all. There are always just the few subquests they bother to do. And not very well at that either. I mean, you find something on your way in the mainquest. All you have to do is pick up the bottle of wine, spice box and so on and then talk to the ones in the bar... Wiho, very complex quests. It´s a shame it is called BG at all. It has no similarities with the other except that you happen to be in the Elfsong Tavern for a while.

The only differance in replay is if you used the Dwarf the first time. He's from that clan in the mountains. Then if you use the Archer, Sorcerer, Drizzt or Lotal they just say something different to you.
