[IMG] I'm having some strange problems using a high level bard. I'm playing a downloaded module designed for 20th level characters and so have a top level bard. The problem is the spell selection is behaving strangely. Basically it doesn't let me chose whatever spell I want and the choice of spells seems to change randomly. :nolike:

Now before you get too excited with an answer here are some of the things I 'do' understand about bard spells. They rely on charisma not inteligence and work like the sorcerer system in that they are not pre-learned so you cast any combination up to a set limit each day. So with a boosted 27 charisma at level 20 my spellbook shows all the bard spells. After resting I 'should be' able to select any of them.

I have tried the normal sorts of solutions, i.e. stripping off all items :o to make sure there are no conflicts, resting, etc but nothing seems to work. I also wondered if it was the lack of a hostile target that mean I couldn't select some spells but I have tested that theory too and it isn't that.

I can't give you a list of not working spells as it seems to change. The one I miss most though is the summon creature spells of any level (again they are in the spell book). They almost never seem to be available. I do know they work though as I summoned a dire tiger  very early on.

Any ideas, suggestions, etc most welcome. :hmm:

As far as summoning creatures, while I played the SP game, I noticed there were places (especially indoors) where I could not cast my creature summoning spells including my animal companion. Even though I had it memorized, it would be greyed-out on my radial menu (I was a Ranger).

Well I've tried it in some of the official levels and there still seems to be a problem. I did manage to cast summon creature outside but later on the option dissapeared again (after resting and unsomming the previous creature). It seems like the spells that are availble is pretty random. Missing spells ranged from charm person to summon to sound burst to slow to mind fog, etc, etc.

However there might be some hope. I haven't tested this for everything but the Summon Creature level 5 spell (my pretty tiger) would work from a quick slot button even though it was showing as unavailable from the radial menu. So it's just a big inconvenience rather than a game buster.

Try testing it for all of them. I seem to remember having difficulties casting summon creatures from the radial menu, but they worked just fine from the quickbar.
