Elephant. A berserk African elephant could probably destroy several grizzlies.

Depends on what exactly we are talking about the winning.

A 100m sprint? Not sure. I would guess Elephant
    A tree pushing contest? Elephant
    A salmon catching contest? Bear
    A hairy legs contest? Bear
Chess? Tough to call. Might have to go best of 3.

Well the carebears will use their 'Care Bear Stare' and make the berserk african elephant a happy elephant ala dumbo, at which point the Gummi bears drink several quarts of Gummi Berry Juice and...er...bounce the elephant.

They don't live in similar climes, let alone same places.

    *gives Fel a life* :D

    Okay, additional info:
    -Grizzly bear
    -Fight to the death
-In a forest (as I said above)
-Same height at shoulder when the bear is standing on two paws and the elephant is standing normally

In a forest, the a raging grizzly would pwn the berserk elephant, it has better manouvrability. The elephant on the other hand could get stuck in a forest, which is bad for a fight to the death.

I've seen a rampaging elephant, their turning circle is a bit big.

Are you kidding? Bears are fast. I would root for the bear in a 100m sprint. For longer distances, I would go for the elephant.

In a fight to the death, there are no real winners; both animals are protected, so if one kills the other, the winner would be in serious trouble with the law.

(Wow, you can almost tell I'm not taking this seriously... :1eye: )

Bears don't want trouble with lions, so I can assume their powers are close to each other. And an elephant can crush a lion, therefore I assume an elephant can destroy a grizzly bear. And elephants are really mighty animals. IMO no grizzly bear can kill a mature elephant.

One stomp from the big boy and it's goodnight sweetheart for the grizzly. The elephant would take it to the cleaners.

Elephants have very thick skin and a lot of weight. Though they are calm animals they can be viscious when needed.

Depends on just how dense the area of forest is. The denser the forest, the higher the chances of a victorious bear.

The bear could hide in a tree and jump on the elephant

    BEER  WI--n--s--! Oh, 'bear'...

Bear would win, strong, fast, cute, more experienced fighter etc.
    Bear eats=meat/berries Elephant=vegetarian

@Shell,there aren't many strong enough trees for a bear :p it weights roughly as much as a small car. Unless we're talking about a teddybear ;)

What kind of Heffalump, and what kind of forest? An elephant probs couldn't knock down a dawn redwood, but it could mash plenty of trees out of the way.

Plus, an African elephant you pwn an Indian elephant.

What about a trained War Elephant, a la Carthage? That would eat several bears.

Dammit, why did Peter Jackson leave the Mumuk vs Beorn scene from LoTR?!?

I guess they wouldn't fight each other without a good reason. They aren't as stupid as us.

    I read this:
as Grizzled bear, which makes the next statement:
    Too funny.

Elephant: Why, I remember when all this was plains as far as the eye could see! It was great...then *humans* showed up with their precious (/naggy voice) "Arbor Day Foundation" (\naggy voice) and now you can't see the forest for the trees, let allow solid ground! :grr: :toofar: :flaming: 'Phant! Makes me wish I was a carnivore!!!

    Bear: You eat cars?
