Becoming a lich

Discussion in 'Dungeons & Dragons + Other RPGs' started by Sol'Kanar, Aug 1, 2001.

One of the PCs in a campaign I am currently DMing has expressed an interest in actually becoming a lich himself. This could fit into the campaign, however, I cannot find the actual process involved written anywhere. Does anyone know anything about this?

That has got to be one of the most perverse, bizarre things I've ever read in regard to the game!

any idea as to what the experience reward is for slaying the "White state" of the lich?

There is a detailed explanation in the 3rd Edition Monster Manual. But from your statement that you can't find that information anywhere I take it that you don't have 3rd E. It's on page 216 Core Rulebook III, If you want me to scan it in and post it to you, E-mail me.

Actually, the description in the 3E monster manual isn't detailed at all, that's why I wanted another scource. It tells everything about the stats and how to make an NPC lich, but nothing about what the process actually involves. That's what I was asking.

Forgive my curiosity, but how can you say, that it would fit into your campaign to allow a player to attain lichdom?
IMO that is a process reserved for the most twisted, bizarre and utterly evil npc, who use it, as a way to cheat death when old age begins to threaten.

Just a thought, if the character wants to cheat death, wouldn't it be more fun to just use some spell like Magic Jar to take over a new and young body? this way, you would also avoid giving him so much power.
I find it hard to see, how you would challenge such a character? A scary thought, a lich, continuing to gain power, as he rises in experience. eek.

You would really have to be in the campaign to get it, for get it he will in the end. Travelling down the dark paths has it's rewards, but it's going to end badly. If he had chosen the Fistandantilus method instead (magic jar, steal a new body) I wouldn't be so hard on him, but as it stands, he's gonna face some trouble.

All he's gotta do is cast one of the spells that does that.
There are I believe two in the net spellbook.
They are 2nd edition though, if you're playing thitd you're going to have to modify them
