[IMG] I got a unanimous acquittal for the Uthgardt barbarian accused of murdering the Lord's Alliance soldier. I skipped many a question (especially from the accused's wife) that I thought would be inflammatory rather than helpful, so I was wondering what your experience was?

Did everybody get a unanimous decision or were there some bad questions that tripped you up?

I got an acquittal, but it wasn't unanimous. I believe that to get a unanimous decision, you have to learn certain things during your investigation AND avoid flipping hot buttons during the trial. My 8 Cha, low Persuade skill half orc wasn't able to get some of the witnesses to come clean during the investigation phase.

    Spoiler below!

Basically the only thing I had to find out was that the soldier (I'm pretty bad with all the names) put a little something extra in the drinks he gave to the barbarian, and that he hated all the barbarians. Oh, and also that the witnesses never actually saw who started the fight.

The questions I stayed away from were about whether the barbarian was drunk at the time (because prevailing thought among the Lord's Alliance is that the barbarians are a bunch of drunken thieves).

Also the ONLY question I asked the barbarian's wife was why she asked him to talk to the soldier afterwards. The other questions looked like they could cause problems given the differences in culture.

I did not call the accused to the stand.

I didn't win the case :( he was beheaded and had his head placed on a pole outside the temple as a symbol for what happens to murderers :p
my char was Evil though so i didn't even bother talking to anyone and i presented the case that he was just a stupid drunk barbarian so he shouldn't be held accountable for who he kills
then none of the other barbarians would talk to me anymore  they called me oath-breaker. so i had to kill them too
oh well still got paid for doing it by the priest :D

I hated that trial. Being lawful good, I did my utmost to get the barbarian off the hook. I had a fair wisdom, so I had a good insight. If you ask whether the person thinks that it is all because the Lords alliance hates the Uthgardt, you get the option in the final part where you bring up the accusers obvious hatred of the barbarians. It does a fair job convincing people that he is innocent, at least it did for me.

I convinced the guy in the bar to tell me what he knew, but I am pretty sure the guy with the wounded leg had information he didn't share.

I brought up that the barb's drink was spiked, no one saw the fight start, the dead guy hated barbs, and the dead guy was a jerk.

Other than establishing the drink was spiked, I stayed away from the drunkenness issue and I completely skipped the racism idea.

That got me 3 positive votes (torches) and 2 abstentions (neither showing). I assumed there was more information I could have gotten, but its possible that my low Charisma (8) or a bad question was involved in the outcome.

I bribed two soldiers who were in the jury, and then it was easy.

BTW, can you get the guy who put something in the drink to admit it?

Bought the guy in the bar a couple of beers to get him to reveal that the Uthgardht's drink was spiked. Then I healed (any curative spell will do) the guy with an injured leg to reveal.... that the drink was spiked. Yeah, same thing. Avoided the questions concerning the mental state of the Uthgardht, avoided calling him, and got a unanimous vote.

I also bribed two of the people so the trial was a 3-2 vote and he was innocent.

Yeah, but you can get the old lady's vote without playing on the racism theme, which bothers some of the other jury members.

Just Curious. Has anyone got a 5-0 vote for him being innocent?

[IMG] Um... I believe that's what a "unanimous acquittal" means.
