The release date is March 31, 2016 (end of this month). Several versions of the game are available for preorder, with the Collector's Edition's price set to somewhat ridiculous $129.99 + s&h. Keep in mind, this is only an expension pack to BG:EE (yes, you need it to play SoD), though touted as taking 25 hours to complete.

The base edition is priced at $19.99, whereas the "Digital Deluxe" version is double that ($39.97) and only contains all the soundtracks in addition to the base expansion.

    Key Features
    • Expand Your Story: Explore new areas, fight new monsters, and win new rewards in the Siege of Dragonspear expansion to Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition. Continue the adventure by exporting your game to Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition
    • The Crusade Rises: A sharp and subtle adventure that pits you against an enigmatic new foe
    • Explore the Sword Coast: Venture through vibrant new hand-painted areas in the classic style of the original Baldur’s Gate
    • Gather Your Party: The original cast returns to kick butt for goodness - along with Neera, Rasaad, Dorn, and four new additions!
    • To Infinity and Beyond: Updated UI and improved Infinity Engine features
    • Extra Class: New items, quests, and a new class: the spirit-calling shaman!
    • Venture Forth With A Friend: Functional, extensively tested cross-platform multiplayer on all supported platforms
    • Story Mode: A difficulty setting to allow players to experience all of the story with none of the Game Over screens
Apparently, the only way to pre-order right now is via Beamdog's website, where you can also find more info. Screenshots can be seen here.

My first thought was: How many carat gold is the amulet in the CE to justify that price? :shake:

Yea, I seriously doubt that that'll sell much with that price tag, especially these days when a lot of us are past buying such overly expensive sets full of more or less useless goodies that you usually only look at once before shelving. Not that you can't sell gimmicky crap to gamers these days any more, but there has to be at least something in the set to make you think that you're getting your money's worth. Looking at the contents, even a $99,99 price tag would be reaching IMO.

All wonderful goodies you will soon lose in Chez Irenicus...
Better place for an expansion would be in ToB which is a bit light by comparison with SoA.

$20 sounds about right for an expansion - i'm really not interested that much in the soundtrack - besides, if experience tells me anything there's going to be some tool with which you can extract the music from the game files, and even if not i'll doubt that it'll take long for the soundtrack to be up on YouTube if it's any good.

As far as the CE goes, there's a lot better things i can spend $129 on. And like you said Tal, in my experience i usually only look at that stuff once before shelving/crating it, only for it to never be seen again.

$20 for just the soundtrack seems a bit steep, but I suppose it's just seeing how much they can get away with.

Does it tell us what happened with Dynaheir?

IIRC I saw something about Minsc/Dynaheir in some of the screenshots.

I'm definitely going to buy it, if just to lend support to the concept. That's a lot of gameplay hours for something that should only gain you a level or two though.

Not necessarily. I mean they could introduce the entire population of BG again for you to fight and it wouldn't amount to much more than a couple of levels since the curve rises exponentially.

I was think the Collector's edition was AT MOST an $80.00 package. $129 is just silly for what they're offering.

I'm guessing this also depends on what quests are available and how much XP is awarded for them though ?

Quest XP is quest XP. It can be as much or as little as they want to give.

BG1 and BG2 both got a massive amount of achievements on Steam. Looks like that's part of the engine update coming with SoDs.

Not really something I was looking forward to in particular, but I guess it'll give me something to do for the next couple of runs while I'm finishing up my mods.

I took a closer look at their preorder page.
Ordering the Collectors Edition to be sent to Germany costs 45$ shipping and handling. It´s listed as "shipping (EU)" so that´s probably the price for any EU state.

And when filling the order form the "state/province" section lists only US states - but when going to the second page it requires you to enter a state...

Edit: The collectors edition is not only the expansion SoD but includes BG:EE too.
IMO the price is only justified for those that do not already own BG:EE and want to get both.

I've seen that kind of sloppiness when it comes to order forms dozens of times over the years. A large number of American companies don't really give a second thought to markets other than the US, so they don't bother making sure that anyone but Americans can actually use their order forms.

Even then, the price is still quite high. i'd rather order bg:ee and SoD seperately without all the goodies tbh.

Apparently v2.0 brought with it a slew of new bugs and contains some questionable design choices with regards to UI. Guess we'll have to wait for 2.1 or mods to fix it up.
