Broken Monitor?

    [​IMG] Hey guys,

    my monitor was working fine yesterday morning but now its all messed up. The monitor remains blank and the little light on the bottom right just keeps blinking on and off...

    I'm kind of a computer illeterate so I just wanted to ask if this sounds familiar to anybody and if there's something I can do to make it work again besides calling a technician?

    Assuming that we're talking about an LCD monitor here (though it could be the same with a CRT), check that your connecting cable to your computer is properly plugged in on both ends. If it's loose on either end the picture signal might not be getting to your monitor, resulting in no picture on screen.

    [​IMG] As Tal suggested, check the connection with the PC at both ends. Also, try connecting the monitor to a power outlet that you know is working correctly for another device, in case it's a power problem. Try a different power cord.

    Do the monitor controls (buttons, dials...) work?Also, you can try disconnecting the monitor from the PC. This should, in most cases, display a "NO SIGNAL" message on screen.

    hmm, thanks for the advice guys but i called a repair person in and its okay now. he says that the video card was lose and it caused it? :confused:

    Yea, same thing, really... :D Everything needs to be plugged in tightly. Though it's rather rare to have the graphics card itself plugged in well enough to work one day and not the next. It's way more common with cables.

    That's why you never, ever, clean the inside of the computer case. Dust helps to keep things in place. ;)

    true, but it makes the parts hotter as a side effect.
    And that can cause, after a long period of time and much dirt, malfunctions like an overheating processor.
