I've always been using the old interface but perhaps it's time for change. Everyone's talking about Vista, anyway. So, is there a way I could make it not green but something else? Without downloading anything commercial, shareware, adware etc?

I dont know of anyway to change it without a 3rd part program, but, to completely ignore the title of this topic, here's a 3rd party program that'll do what you want (well, technically its freeware, so I guess i'm not getting too carried away)

For the Vista look without the crappy OS itself, I use this
tool. Its called the Vista Transformation Pack. It gives you the different interface as well as some other nifty enhancements. I've tried version 4.0 (its now at 6.0) and it worked rather well.

If your after a change, i'd recommend giving it a shot - but as per the usual computer routine, back everything up first!

Thank ye. I've tried Vista Inspirat today, but it seemed to be like its title - cut somewhere close to the end but not yet there. ;)

Will give your link a go. ;) In the meantime, I've found some Resource Hacker to get into the core of things and swap the bitmap basically. Might try that too if Vista doesn't ultimately work for me. ;)

Downloading ATM. It seems to be 5 MB bigger than the Inspirat thingy. Good. ;) I like the black Start bar a lot.

There are dozens of Windows "Theme" sites out there. All you do is install the skin, and XP has a totally new look. As for just changing the start button's color, I don't know how to do it off hand.

For more themes and skins than you can shake a stick at, just google "XP Themes" or "XP Skins". :thumb: :rolling:
