    M'okay I've install BG (without the expansion) Done a Full install, Installed the patch and the DirectX 8 one. But now I don't know why, but I just can't start a new game. Each time I try it crash to the desktop and a message show up;

    An assertion failed in D:bad:Dev\baldur\CGameEffect.cpp at line number 808

    What should I do? Commit suicide?

    If you refer to the path in the error message, then its irrelevant. Iirc, that is refering to where the developers put their files when they made the engine.

    Well, I'm not one for knowing much about computers, but see if this helps any. I had problems with DirectX 8 in my Nancy Drew games.

    Completely uninstall the game.
    Defrag your hard drive.
    Install the game.
    Install official patch.
    Try starting a new game.

    I know, it seems real simple, but sometimes it's the easy things that can work. It could be a bug or a virus you have that's causing this.

    Also, do you have to change discs? There might be a scratch on one of the CDs. I have a full install and I still need to swap discs.
