Ok, I was just wondering...is it cheaper to sign up for a cell phone plan and get the phone I want at a local authorized dealer (like Dimond Wireless, or Spring Communications) or would it be cheaper to go directly to T-Mobile to get the plan and phone that I want? What other advantages/disadvantages do local authorized dealers provide? :rolling:

Depends purely on how you use your phone, do you sms a lot and do you make a lot of calls often?

Be careful where you take that camera phone. Many places have begun outlawing them because of abuses. People have been using them in locker rooms, restrooms, etc. and distributing the pictures for money and/or laughs.

Yeah, I'm not one of those people who is afraid to leave their cell phone in the car while going to a concert...

Oh, and I guess I would be using SMS...as I stated in #3 of my 2nd post.

But back to the main question, which is still unanswered... :rolling:

Whats a 'cell phone'? Is it similar to a mobile phone?

"cell phone" is short for "cellular phone". It is exactly the same thing as a "mobile phone".

The term refers to the technology used to pick up and send signals from such phones whereby the circular coverage area covered by each tower is a "cell". The idea is that each cell overlaps with the six other cells that surround it, creating a honeycomb pattern that so that you never lose coverage (until you get out of range of the outermost cell - i.e. you are out in the sticks somewhere).

Im sick and tired of mobile phones not actually being used as mobile phones, I only use mine for making calls, and very rarely texting (sms), but it seems there are too many people out there that want their so called "phones" to do everything for them, and they are technically no longer phones, ther glorified PDA's that you occaislnally make a call with.

If I wanted to take pictures I'd use a digital camera, the quality of mobile phones is useless and as for games, I've never been so bored in my life, I could pull my gameboy out of the attic and be more entertained, but I must admit if you can do e-mail on your phone I would really like to know which model provides that.

    I agree.

I have the cheapest mobile phone possible ( it actually came with cash-back so it had a negative cost). It pretty much has no functionality other than the receipt and transmission of phone calls.

That's because the cellphone companies have done such a great sell-job on you by convincing you that a telephone is a fashion item and that you're nothing unless you have the latest one. It's the same scam that clothing companies have been pulling on women for years.

Actually, might as well put it in T-M. A phone's a technical device after all.

Kitrax - T-Mobile? :p Didn't they used to be Voicestream? and before that Primeco? and before that...and...you are voting for King George also ...?

Some of them ARE PDAs. And video cameras. And MP3 players. Technology - where will it all end?

The ring tone on my wireless phone is "More Than a Feelin'" by Boston.

It doesn't really matter what the provider used to be, all that matters now is:

What good are local dealers who sell phones and plans for the major companies, when you can go directly to the source (i.e. T-Mobile, Sprint PCS, AT&T, ect.)? :rolling:
