[IMG] Well, now that I've had mine for a while, it's time to clean it, but coming from owning only CRTs before, I have an obvious dilemma. What can I use to clean them besides the obvious soft cloth? That alone will almost certainly not be enough to thoroughly clean it, and I'm equally certain that I can't use the window-cleaning spray that worked wonders for my old CRT.

Are there any special cleaning solutions for LCDs? For those of you who own LCD monitors, how do you clean them?

Soft cloth & water is enough, LCD monitors don't need any special care because they're pretty scratch resistant.

But if your monitor is downright dirty, there's special LCD cleaning solutions you can find anywhere (put the solution on the cloth, not the screen!).
Don't press the screen hard, pixels die.

Oh and you're right, using that "window-cleaner" isn't really working, it turns the whole screen yellow :D .

There is also cleaning wipes made for just for LCD's. If not, there is also a window cleaner supply on a cloth version that you may use.

Try drawing your initials and year number to the screen with your finger. If you can tell what you wrote a year after, the screen is dirty.

And if it is dirty, you should wipe it with a soft clothe (dust) and some lens-cleaning solution (slime).

Actually, LCD screens are a pain to clean. They smear like crazy. I found that the only way to successfully clean my laptop's screen was to use a soft cotton cloth with 50% rubbing alcohol and water to wipe down the entire surface. Then go over it with the clean, dry micro-fiber cloth. The micro-fiber cloth is the only thing that has been able to remove the smudges so far. :thumb: :rolling:

Micro-fiber is what I use too for both eye-glasses and monitors, but doesn't alcohol have a corrosive effect? Would be much safer to use the lens-cleaning solution, IMO. :hmm:

Where'd you get the idea to use lens-cleaning solution? And where do you get micro-fiber cloth? Is this some special kind for cleaning monitors? Note: I haven't really done any research into what's available on the market for cleaning LCD monitors.

After asking a few techie friends of mine what to do about my smudgy lcd problem, they told me simply, to buy 'lcd' cleaning solution. I mentioned that i'd tried lens-cleaning solution and they stopped dead, looks squarely at me, and told me that, depending on the quality of the lcd, said solution may distort the affected areas (say, turn green). Other than the specific solution, water and the microfibre cloth were apparently the other alternative.

Whether or not this is grounded in reality, well, when was the last time you met a techie who was grounded in reality?

That's what I thought (regarding lens-cleaning solutions). Some of them are quite aggressive, and I'm pretty sure that the LCD surface is not made of the same material as lens.

Tal, after a quic search on Amazon, I got over 255 search results. something like this is all you really need. You should be able to find them at any major 'one-stop-shopping' store. :thumb:
You use and clean them just like any rag...just don't use any fabric softener or dryer sheets when cleaning them...IIRC, half their good cleaning ability comes from static. :rolling:

What you can buy in the US and what you can buy in Slovenia are often two very different things. :shake:

Though this stuff is probably available here too, I just don't know about it since I've never needed it before. I'll have to look around a bit. Thanks for the replies, all.
