In the past I would use a damp rag to keep my PC clean. I recently acquired a laptop and I want to take extra good care of it. What stuff should I use to remove dirt especially on the monitor?

They have special cleaners and cloths for laptop monitors, I would suggest those. And always make sure that the laptop is off when you clean it. Apart from that special cleaner a good old can of compressed always worked well for me. Look around your local office and electronics shops and compare prices. Hope that helps.

For the monitor, I would recommend using a soft dry cloth, not unlike the little ones you get with expensive sunglasses etc.

For the rest, some compressed air to get rid of the stuff stuck between the keys, and making sure your hands are clean at all times when you use the trackpad...that should be good enough.

And of course, excellent hygiene and cleanliness around your laptop. They aren't as resistant to wear and tear as a good old PC would be. :D

Laptop screens like to smear instead of clean. I use rubbing alcohol (70% Isopropanol) and a clean cloth to clean mine...but that can smear too, to a follow up with a lens cleaning cloth that I get for my glasses, usually gets rid of the streaks. But before you actually clean the screen, blast the dust off with a can of compressed air. Be sure to blast the dust out of the CPU heatsink...laptops get hot enough, the last thing you need is a dust-clogged heatsink. :rolling:

Thanks everyone for all your help. Everyone else is welcome to add their own advice. This will be useful for others here, I'm sure.

Amen to that! Clogged fans and heatsinks are the bane of my brand new laptop's extremely short life! :D

I found a microfiber cloth (with nothing else) removes pretty much anything from the screen.
