I don't have a problem with Alabama and Texas being for the national championship, although I thought Texas's clock management skills at the end of that game were atrocious. A 46-yard field goal is no chip shot even at the pro level. I cannot believe that Texas didn't call their last time out earlier and try to get closer. (But they were right to put one second back on the clock - say what you will about the officiating, but IMO they clearly got that one correct.)

What I have a beef about is that TCU and Boise State are paired in the Fiesta Bowl. One of the biggest debates all year was how would an undefeated team from a non-BCS school fare against the big BCS teams? While I like that the two at-large bowl bids were awarded to non-BCS schools, I wanted to see each of them take on one of the BCS schools. And I understand that there is some tradition at play here. The Rose Bowl used its traditional pairing of the Pac 10 Champ versus the Big Ten Champ. No complaints there. But is Cincy versus either TCU or Boise State too much to ask?

 

TCU is not a pretender. I would of loved to see them play Texas this year. That would of made a great game.

I think Bama showed every one they are the top team and will blow out Texas in the Title game. That was a well-oiled machine that came out and handed it to Florida and Tebow. No doubts now who should be # 1. Funny thing is I still think Florida is the 2nd best team, they're just unfortunate enough to have had to play Bama. That's another flaw in the system. If the 2 best teams in the nation are from the same conference, one will have to lose to the other, making the best possible matchup in the title game an impossiblity if another team goes undefeated from another conference.

I am for the playoff system. 11 game season, 8 team playoff. That would total 14 games, some teams are playing that many with a bowl as it is. The BCS obviously doesn't work, though I do like the tradition of bowl games, it is no longer functional as a decider of champions.

 

You could also argue that it makes it harder for the top team to win this way. Alabama has to beat undefeated Florida and then undefeated Texas to win the title, whereas Texas got a much easier Nebraska team in the conference championship.

And they could keep the bowl games - just make them part of the playoffs. With an 8-team playoff you need 7 bowl games. They already have five major bowls in the BCS - they can pick two more to add to the club.

I agree that Florida will likely roll over Cincy. I wasn't upset at that matchup though - I would have preferred if TCU and Boise played anyone else besides each other.

EDIT: However, keep in mind that the bowl games are picked by committee. I don't know the order that picks were made, but after the title game is set, the reamining four bowls each pick one team that they want to see in the bowl. None of the other bowls are set, although some bowl go for traditional matchups (like Ohio St and Oregon in the Rose) if they aren't hosting the title game. A team like Florida will draw a large audience, so it isn't surprising they got a BCS bid even after losing the conference title game.
