Colour temps on your screen - what do you use?

    Remove all ads!
    For example, most monitors past a certain date of production have the setting of either 6500K or 9500K, perhaps more options or even a slider. Graphics card drivers also have this. Which one do you prefer? I somehow like the looks of 9500K, but I prefer to work in 6500K, although I can't give you a specific reason. Maybe it's less tiring for my eyes. What about you?

    Never realized these existed until now - on my screen:

    sRGB (normal colours, just looks brighter)
    9300(makes everything look more blue)
    6500 (normal, default)
    5400 (makes it all look more red)
    use colour (lets you set something for the three colours using a slider).

    I've been using 6500, but set it to the sRBG setting just then.

    It was set to 6500, but i've now set it to 9300. It's bright XD

    My LCD doesn't list the actual values any more, just cool, warm, normal and custom. I mostly use cool because the whites on normal are too hard on the eyes usually (unless I tone brightness down significantly).

    I use the 'Normal' setting at home. My works computer is set at 'Cool' and I hate it...but I can't change it. :bad: :rolling:

    I didn't know about this setting, thanks for starting the thread chev! Mine is set to 93000. The control on my screen is pretty good, as I can change it in increments of 250. I just tried taking it down to 65000 and it's far, far too read, although that may be because I got used to the cool setting. I may leave it at something in-between maybe 80000 or 85000.

    Can you set this through the drivers (or the display settings, or something similar) as well, or is it purely hardware-controlled?

    For my Samsung I can change it both via the monitor's controls and the MagicTune program. I'm sure it can be changed similarly for every other monitor. Look for "color tone".

    Cool (9500K) for me, tuning down the blues a bit. I find that it looks better in an office with fluorescent light. I use a custom profile at home, still based in 9500K, but with the contrast lowered a bit.
