OK, here's the problem: I close an Internet Explorer window and the whole computer insta-shuts down. Not like Windows shuts down. The computer resets. It doesn't happen always, just often. At least twice today already and it's not even noon. I'm no noob but this eludes me. I know Windows is a pile of crap but what's the logic behind this kind of error? I'm running XP SP2 on a Celeron 2.4 machine with 512 megs of RAM and no outdated or strange components. This isn't a browser issue because it's happened at least twice on a logging out attempt, too.

[IMG] Microsoft blames the video drivers for this behaviour.
You can find it in this article in the M$ website:
It's not always malware: How to fix the top 10 Internet Explorer issues

    Edit: correction.

I love their standard corporate bull****. I have the exact latest non-beta drivers. ;) Thanks for the tip, I guess I'll try reducing acceleration. Does it affect only Windows itself or also my games?

Any graphic intensive program will be affected. By reducing hardware acceleration some effects and textures may not be represented properly (or not at all). Depending on the programs that you use, you may notice it or not.

On the other hand, you will increase performance. I had a program to design 3D houses that specifically required reducing hardware acceleration to the minimum.
