So, last week i noticed a sudden slowdown in my connection. When i try to downlod something or wiew a flash, for example, it takes forever.
Example: now i'm trying to download a file, usually the speed should be about 100kb/sec. Now it's 16.4/sec and slowing, anyone knows the cause?
Actually, could it have something to do with that my modem kept disconnecting and i changed the phone wire to old one i had used in my first computer?

Any help or advise would be welcome, as i'm not computer expert. :)

Regular answer #1: sure you don't have malware on your comp? There could be one behind your back, downloading porn as we speak. ;)

Regular answer #2: changed cable; did you also check the compatibility?

Erm... Compatiblity? They have compatiblity? So, it may work, but is much slower if it isn't compatible? Actually, the cable is MUCH older than the modem (and much used as well), that might be the cause...
Don't think it's malware, my hard drive space is the same as before...

What kind of a cable is it? CAT5, regular, or what? AFAIK, modems and ADSL use different kind of cables. ISDN might need something different too, so it would be a good idea to check it once you are sure there is no malware in your PC.

A poor cable certainly can be the cause of the slowdown. What if you use the cable with a phone? Do you hear static or noise? If so, then I'd say for sure it's the cable.

    /me screams random profanities

You do realize "malware" could be as small as a dozen Kb and still cause havok on your computer, right? :bang:

Please, do yourself a favor and read this! :rolling:

it might be malware, but the problem began at the same moment i changed the cable. So, it's probably cable that causes all my problems...
Too bad i can't test with my phone (It's cable can't be removed.)
And now that i look at the two cables, i notice that the one i use now looks different.
So, it's cable with all probablity.
How stupid of me not to think of that! Thanks for help.
