[IMG] In a life or death situation? If my life or the life of someone I loved was in jeopardy, I think I could. Though I am not sure. I know I could hurt someone and put them down and out of commission so I could get to safety. But its hard to say if I could actually kill someone. What I worry about is my temper in a situation like that. I know I have a really bad temper. I do a good job keeping it under control, but when the adrenaline is rushing, who knows.
So, could you kill someone? If you're life was in danger? Or what about in a fit of rage? If someone wronged you, or killed a family member or friend, if you were allowed to by law, would you find that person and take their life in return?

Yes, if someone is trying to kill me then why should I not try and kill them in return? If someone is trying to kill my friend then I am trying to kill them, np, worry about the consequences later.
And I might go for the whole vengance thing if I had to but probably wouldn't, but then, I couldn't say, none of my friends have died

Interesting question, but it's hard to answer.

The thing is, I think I could do it if my or someone close to me life hangs in the balance. But I'll never know for sure until it happens. When I was young I frequently got so mad at someone I totally lost control. That's been like 14 years ago and the last time it happened I didn't actually hit someone but the coolbox that was standing next to him (I hit that thing like 20 times and I didn't even feel it until I realized what I was doing)

It's like going berserk. But I've never been in a serious fight, just some wrestling match with my brothers that went out of hand.

So to sum up, I'm afraid I will lose total control when someone or something threatens me.

Apeman, I know what you are talking about. I hit someone once. I lost my temper and hit him so hard, I literally sent him flying. Funny thing is after he went down, instead of coming back after me, he started laughing hysterically because no one ever expected me, of all people to hit someone.
I've lost my temper so bad I've put holes in walls and even dented a car door. But that hurt afterwards.

I think I could, but am very sure that I would feel REALLY bad afterwards.

    Hell yeah.

I could easily kill someone, if it was me-or-them situatíon. Hell, I could do cold-blooded murder if I wanted, for I have a chip the size of Russia on my shoulder against certain people who have made my life miserable.

Cold-blooded vengance is in the future. That I am sure of.

(I am evil. I know it. And insane.)

To protect myself or loved ones, I have little doubt that I could and would.

To defend my country in a war situation [be that Norway or the UK], yes I could and I would.

In cold blood for gain etc, I think and trust that I could not.

I don't think I could do it. In defense of myself or a loved one, I would certainly fight like hell with everyone weapon at my disposal, but if the thought of killing rather than simply incapacitating the other person crossed my mind I think I'd freeze up and chicken out. This is not to say that my best effort might not result in the other person's death, just that I couldn't deliberately set out to kill someone.

While I might briefly fantasize about choking some anonymous a$$hol3, it's merely stress relief and I know I could never do it for real - consequences or not. ;)

    Yes.

Depending of the situation, of course. A fit of rage isn´t exactly a good mood to do a decision like that, better to cool down first and see if it would be worth it. After all, there will be questions...

If the situation would be a typical after-dark dead-end street and three thugs with clubs; I would have no objections of killing them, if necessary, and I wouldn´t feel any regrets afterwards.

Long story made short: give me a good reason and I will do it. Believe me; 'gain' is a good reason.

As a matter of fact, I don't think I could. Not in cold blood at least. I've realized that one of the qualities which defines me is compassion (think of the Latin root of the word..."shared suffering"). I could not kill a fellow human being like that, would not be able to stab/pull the trigger/club them on the head/whatever. I just don't have the guts. Now if this were a battle of some sort, for my life or that of someone I care about, I'd fight pretty desperately...but I'm not sure I'd be able to administer the coup de grace anyways. Nonhumans, I don't know; not animals, but probably D&D-style monsters (Trolls, etc) I could kill.

I think I could do so if I were in real danger or if I would be tormented enough.

In cold blood, no, I don't think I'd ever be able to kill someone. I always try to stay in control of myself though, because killling will inevitably get you in trouble, even if it was to defend yourself.

Well, it seems there are two kinds of people: ones that kill for self-defence, like Uytuun, and others that would be able to kill for something else, like me...

    Conclusion?

To defend friends and other loved ones or my country or something similar I'd say yes, I could and would kill someone. But to kill in cold blood for my own gain or to further my own goals, I don't think I could, or if I did, I would feel really bad about it.

self defense, yes, defense of loved ones. I'd say yes. But not for anything else, I dont think there'd be an idealistic belief that I could believe so strongly in to justify murder.

Like most of the people here, i would kill in defense of myself or a loved one. But if I had someone at my mercy, I would most probably leave them, unless in vengence of a loved one in which I will have no problem killing them, mutilating them, and finally taking a slash on their grave (I'm close to my family)

Ps I'm a little worried about you Elios, why would you ask such a question?

Only for self-defense.Do you think it's easy to waste away a life someone tried to built for 30 years in a breath.
    I guess not.

[IMG] There are very few circumstances I could imagine completely losing control and killing someone. I identify completely with Rallymama -- in cases of defence I would do my best to incapacitate them, but killing I could not do.

However, it's possible that under extreme circumstances (someone raping or killing one of my loved ones) I might lose it. I don't know. I certainly couldn't do it after the fact, but if I were there.... I just might kill them. And continue hacking them after they're dead. I'll let you know if it ever happens.

[IMG] I would severly hurt someone. Personally I'm a bit of a torturer. I would hurt them, and play mind games, drive them insane, it is much more satisfying to watch them suffer than to kill them and let that be the end.

On the other hand I would most likely be able.

Of course I would. Put in the "right" circumstances, anyone would be able to. For example (and an extreme one at that), let's say that a person is tortured for weeks on end, sleep deprived, etc., to the point of literal insanity. Suddenly, their shackles open with the torturer standing in front of them with his back turned doing unspeakable things to a loved one. I cannot imagine that anyone would stop at "disabling" in that circumstance. It's just a matter of how far one is pushed. Just as "everyone has a price" is a truism (no, I'm not limiting the "price" to money), everyone can be brought to a breaking point where their morality and ethics are thrown out the window. Some may take more punishment than others, but we can all be brought there.
