A one-armed monkey trainer, the character could only use weapons requiring one arm and no shield and would be followed by monkeys, kinda like familiars but less useful. I bet it would be a challenge completing the game with that character!

I was thinking something along the lines of a Dragonball Z monk.
Having awesome offensive capabilities while being able to cast spells like minor, and major Kameamea and special beam cannon.
Drawbacks would be limited weapon and armor use.

Now that class would be really really awful to roleplay. DragonBall Z really nauseautes me with their planet destroying ki blasts sometimes. This would be totally out of place in the D&D world. I mean, those bastards could slap Solars and Demon Princes around like red headed stepchilds. Where's the fun in playing a character like that?

    How about a musketeer-type character in D&D?
Wielding a clumsy, noisy rifle that needs to be reloaded, fused and lit after every shot?
This character would be very weak in melee combat, have only one attack per round and only become very accurate at high levels. A musket ball would be able to hit anything that requires a magic weapon to hit and have a range far beyond that of a composite longbow. This would be very very cool.

I like the idea of the musketeer class. Possibly a Gondar Technologist with acess to a variety of high-tech weapons such as muskets, grenadillos (primitive grenades used in the English Civil war)and some purely made up ones (I want a gnome who throws exploding turnips!), all of which can be lethal but are unreliable (On a critical miss the musket blows up in your face or something...) Also, a Gondar technologist might have the thief abilities open lock, detect trap, set trap etc., and maybe the ability to modify weapons (again with a risk of messing up, and some penalties to offset the benifits.)

A ninja would be cool I think, a mix between monk and rogue :)
Only evil or neutral aligned ofcourse. I've read about ninja's through different stories about samurais and their journeys where they eventually stumble upon a ninja hired to kill them. I'd definately try to play one of these if it was possible, though it's rather hard to make one, from the classes and feats that are allready there.

As for the musketeer, that sounds rather cool as well. Perhaps it would end up a bit too powerfull, but that is a question of balancing I guess.

Ahh...crazy and/or funny...I'm not funny, but I'll make an attempt.

    The Half-Celestial Halfling Clown.

Normally an unattainable class by halflings, half-celestial halflings may take the class. They walk on giant stilts, kicking whoever gets in their way, whilst their gaudy pants and funny red noses would draw the attention of the enemy. Each clown comes equipped with a bobble-nose that, when squeezed, has the effect of a low-power charm spell (save vs. spells at +2). If the save is failed, the victim walks towards the clown, hoping to get a good squeeze at the noisy nose.

    WARNING: No Funney Detected.

Anyway, that's my fairly pathetic attempt at humor for the day. If you'll excuse me, I have jokes to ruin...

EDIT: Otherwise, for a cool class, I go with Ninja. They'd start with a Weapon Finesse feat with the spear, and a class ability would be 'Throw Spear', inflicting their strength mod+dexterity mod extra damage. They'd start out proficient with all exotic weapons, and a new weapon or two for them:

    Throwing Spear
    2d8
    Critical Threat Range: 17-20
    Proficiency Type: Spear
This spear is the crowning achievement of a ninja assassin. When used properly, the ninja can throw the spear literally through one's body on a critical hit, enabling him to take out several guards in a row. If a ninja has levels in the Assassin class, the critical threat range of the spear doubles when being used on an assassination.

I don't see how the musketeer could be in danger of becoming too powerful. IMHO, the danger is that he is not powerful enough. The lack of melee capability would make him weaker than regular fighters, and everything pales into insignificance when compared to magic. However, I think a class like that if done right, could be to the fighter as the wild mage is to the regular mage. His experimental technology gives him a bit extra, with the tradeoff that it's not so reliable. Hold on, I've had another thought
    Experimental Horticulturalist
    Gnome only
Has a wide variety of bizarre turnips and turnip related paraphenalia. Turnips which can be used as potions, a turnip launcher for incendiary, poisonous and really hard turnips (to name but a few), and a flamethrower fueled by fermented and distilled turnip juice. He'd be perfect for the Baldur's gate series if he was called Bhaaldrick, or Baldurick or something...

Elementalist mages. I came up with this idea for my own campaign. They are wizards that bond with a certain element to gain power.
This also affects them psycically and physically as well. For example stone mages are very sturdy, fire mages are very hot-headed (haha)and so on.
My version of a paladin also works a bit differently. First they must prove themselves worthy. If they are found worthy their God grants them a part of their divinity. From there on you can never go back. A paladin always acts like their god would. A paladin of the way of peace will NEVER attack first, a paladin of the way of law will always punish criminals no matter what they did and so on.

Ninjas were a class in 1st edition. (see the old, old Oriental Adventure Books for details). It was an add-on class, not stand alone. So you would have to be a Fighter/Ninja or Magic-User/Ninja etc. This was a very cool way of handling it b/c you could keep your ninja side secret, even from fellow party members. They would just wonder who that black robed person was . . .

In terms of Original Funny/Crazy Classes, what about a Caveman - kinda a Barbarian with lower intelligence!

He/she would be limited to weapons that can be found on the ground (stones, clubs, antlers, etc). Fear of fire. Astonised by the site of any wheel (roll vs spell or be charmed saying, "When did they come up with that!???!)

On the positive side, they would be stronger, imune to cloudkill (since they hadn't bathed ever and have a limited sense of smell), and have a +10 Charisma, but only when they are dragging a woman to their cave by the hair.

    what about a Jedi Knight,

He/she could have a special +4 or 5 light sabre and could use different kind of illusions and spells like the throat crush, mind tricks.

Although they might be already doing that in Star Wars Galaxies... I just wondering if it could be put into AD&D format.

[IMG] You have a lot of Good Ideas Divine Shadow. Do You Mind if I copy that mage system as a new and strong generation of mages in my campaing, rebelling(perhaps too strong a word) on the old ways of Magi.

Bel; why aint I surprised? :p

    [IMG] The Bailiff.

He can go into castles ruled by evil overlords, and repossess all the goods there in lieu of taxes owed to the King. Armed with a +3 Notebook of Confusion, he is immune to all but the most organised attacks.

Tassadar, could that possibly be a Dungeon Keeper ripoff :p

Though I think instead of new classes, there could be more prestige classes (I found the assasin to fit very well on ninja character).

I can't remember who told me about a Dragon apprentice prestige class (I still don't know if there is one), but that would be so cool.

A prestige class for sorcerers becoming apprentices of dragons (perhaps even related ones :D). A new kind of archmage, with powerful shapeshifting abilities
