As for me, I don't know anything about this woman other than that she has a very unusual first name that must have been misspelt and mispronounced a million times as a kid.

 

Rice's ethnicity is of no conseqence, my point was that she is a super-right-wing hawk in the same school as Rumsfeld. Not reasonably rational person like for instance Powell.

With calling her waspish I meant her values and opinions, her mindset. To put it bluntly, she is a white middle aged man in the guise of a black woman, which is kinda obvious cause otherwise she would never have reached these heights in our male dominated society.

 

Condi vs. Clinton in 2008. Now that would be interesting.

 

How about a moderate Republican State Governor and Condi as the VeeP. Then Condi can run in 2016 (assuming a 2 term President), she would only be 66 years old!

And yes, before you complain that this comes from an exit poll, note how this particular poll shows an even larger spread between Bush and Kerry (52% vs 47%) than the final tally (51% vs 48%).

Edit: Question regarding Fallujah: Now that the US has retaken control of the city, do we get to watch Bush fly onto an aircraft carrier and hop out in a bumble-bee suit and declare, "Mission Accomplished?!"

Because, he did that last time, and if he really wants to be seen as a President that, "stays the course," I feel we should get another aircraft carrier landing with a bumble-bee suit.

I never said Bush's administration was sexist or racist - I think that's one of those ex-agg-er-ations. Condi's appointment to the SoS position (no pun intended) is not a reflection of enlightened appointments so much as it is Bush appointing his faithful to higher offices. Not that I'll blame him for that, of course - it happens everywhere - but trading Colin for Condi as Secretary of State suggests that the value of diplomacy is depreciating under this administration.

Of course, even if I accept your argument, it doesn't address the question of why Colin Powell resigned. Care to answer that?

Okay, is it just me, or from now on, are USA going to loose their last allies in Europe and most in the other parts of the world during this term? I mean, Powell did his best to keep USA to not leave the rest of the world too much, but Rice will put all that down the drain.

Is it just me, or do you other see a pattern in people leaving right after the election? Hell, not even Bush's closest like him.

Unfortunately their is no chance of the Lib Dems getting into power in Britain come the general election in May (at the latest). Both the Tory's and Labour will continue to support Bush, no matter what he does.

 

Condi got the job in State because she will give Bush an easier second term without all the hassle to decide between two dissenting opinions. Her deputy will be neocon ultra-hawk "I don't do carrots" Bolton. With Condi obedience, conformity and convenience are guaranteed, and with Bolton rabies will become a ficture in US foreign policy adresses.

Add Goss' cleansing of the CIA and you got what this "november massacre" is about: Purges.

The realists in the CIA are being kicked out and the ones that stay will be intimidated enough to keep their traps shut.
If we lived in a primitive age, the ground at Langley would be laid waste and salted, and there would be heads on spikes. That's what can be expected in State as well.

The US administration branches shalt support the leader not with professional advice but with convenient clapping to his royal decrees.

It is a measure of the stunning absence of accountability under Mr. Bush that it is Mr. Powell who leaves, while the architects of the failed and even disastrous policies he opposed, from postwar Iraq to Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib, remain in office.

Well, Bush would lose much (read: even more) in my eyes, if he appointed Condi because of her sex or because of her ethnicity.

Logically, appointing women because they're women is sexism. Appointing black people because they're black is racism. Can't be a sexist and fight sexism. Can't be a racist and fight racism.

Conclusion: It's high time qualifications started to matter.

However, Condi's qualifications are high enough to get her the job without compensation points.

As far as your question regarding why Powell left, when he took the position he said that he would not serve in a 2nd term, sounds like he kept his word.

Now, before I get flamed, I am disappointed that Powell didn't stay on. I know that some of the Republican talking heads on AM radio are claiming this is a good thing, but I am in agreement with Chandos in his belief that Presidents should have advisors with differing opinions.
