How come there are no death animations for when you kill something with a bow? At least, I've never seen one, and I've done enough killing with a bow that I think I would have seen one or two at this point. Do you get death animations with spells (I wouldn't know as I've yet to play a mage).

I also heard that Bethesda is supposedly going to release additional death animations with the new patch - which would be welcome at this point, as there's only so many times you need to see the special death animation of killing a wolf.

That said, some of them you can't see enough. For example, I will never get tired of the dragon death animation when you attack by the head. The warrior just climbs up on the dragons neck, and plunges his sword through its head. I got that one on an elder dragon this weekend. Way cool.

As far as mages are concerned only conjurers, and only because their dead servants/dremora use weapons. Dead thralls with two-handed weapons and dremoras, in particular, spam death animations wherever they go.

According to what I've seen, the patch is already available for PC users, and it should be available for the consoles soon. (One article I looked at actually stated today as the console patch release.)

One BIG change in the patch is with the smithing tree. No more making oodles and oodles of iron daggers and leather bracers. The skill increase you get is now linked to the value of the item you create, in much the same way that higher-value alchemy potions raise your alchemy skill more than the cheap ones. So while it is possible to still hit level 100 in smithing crafting nothing but iron daggers, it will require the crafting of several thousand such daggers to do so. That's probably a good change, as it was highly unbalanced. For about the cost of a home, you could level smithing up to 100. Of course, alchemy is kind of similar. There are a great many potions that you can craft that sell for more than the base cost of the ingredients you use to make them...

They want people to actually use the other types of weapons and armors. Since smithing was able to level quickly, typically a character using heavy armors would skip dwarven and orcish armors entirely, as it didn't take long to get to the next level in smithing. Most characters proceeded directly from steel to ebony. (Or in the case of light armor wearers from leather straight to glass, typically skipping the elven pieces.)

I do like that they are adding the animations for things other than melee weapons. AFAIK, there were no animations at all for bow shots. Given the frequency with which I see animations on melee weapons, it's inconceivable that I wouldn't have seen a single death animation for a bow if they existed. In fact, I find it hard to believe I wouldn't have seen a magic animation either. (Granted I've only dabbled in magic up to this point, but unless the animations on magic are exclusive to the higher-tiered spells, there are none of them either.)
