My previous experience with 3E rules is limited to reading over the PHB and playing NWN. I like the non-weighted point buy system in IWD2 - it allows a little more powerful character than in NWN, and I feel like I can customize my character a bit more to my liking. I LOVE the feat implementation in IWD2; far superior to NWN.

I HATE - totally despise - the lack of skills available to a Fighter. The only "class skill" is Intimidate. I know that skills like Parry and Discipline were non-3ED skills added to NWN, but at least you had –something- to put your skill points into. I rolled up a human Fighter with 13 INT to try out some feats. I started with IIRC 13-16 skill points, having to ‘blow’ them on non-class related skills. The worst part was that I had planned on multiclassing the character, and would have loved to carry over those points for when the time came to change classes. NWN lets you do that – I’m pretty sure that’s a non-3E “feature”, but with how limited my Fighter is with skills, it would sure be nice now.

Anyway, only a small complaint – I’m just thrilled to see a new IE-based game at all!

Great thing about fighters is the extra feat every other level. Skills aren't nearly as valuable as feats. My fighter at the end of the game had so many feats I was running out of useful feats to get.

Although one piece of advice... go Great Swords. There are multiple copies of a +5 Great Sword with 2d4 Vampire skill on it in the final dungeon. A very cool weapon.

Well in the 5th chapter you can buy +4 weapons of every variety in Kuldahar, so it makes any weapon a decent choice. Yes there is a kick-ass bastard sword in the final dungeon.

    Bastard Sword of Heroism
    1D10+3
+5 enchantment (sure-strike, can hit enemies that require a +5 weapon to hit)
Keen: Increase chance to score critical hit
    Slashing: Additional 3d6 slashing damage

It whipped major ass. My buffed out warrior hit for 21-45 with it. And.. this is huge, she scored a crit from 17-20 (basically 20 percent of the time she did double that damage), because she had improved critical and keen weapon. I can't stress enough how important improved critical is.
