I recently found somebody with a copy of Tales of the Swoard Coast, and got them to let me borrow the CD for a while. I decided to use the opportunity to replay from the start.

One annoying thing I've noticed is that when I try to start the game, usually from the START menu, the game prompts me to insert Disk 6. Previously, it didn't matter what disc was in the drive, so long as it was a BG disc. I'm curently about to enter the mines at Nashkel, so it's going to be a long time before I'm ready to explore the new areas. Is there any way to get the game to accept any disc again, so I don't have to shuffle discs every time I quit? Based on my past games without TOTSC installed, I'm going to be using only Disc 2 or 3 for a while, and it would be easier if I could just keep disc 3 in the drive.

I don't have a full install, and I don't have enough hard drive space to do one. It will be at least two months before I can afford to even think about upgrading my hard drive.

It always wants to start up with the expansion disc. Personally, I just do the full install and keep the expansion in the drive at all times - no need to swap.

If you have 2 cdroms you can specify that it looks for the expantion in one of them and the other cd's in the others. That way you just leave the expantion in one of the cdroms without having to swap it.

If you had your own copy of the expantion pack you could have solved it in a few other ways, backup iso etc. Personally I got so sick of this entire disc swapping in the end (and don't like full install) that I made a copy of my cds and put entire game with expantionpack on a single DVD that it can read all the cd's from this one DVD-rom, so I don't ever have to swap.

I have a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive, meaning I can burn CDs but not DVDs. However, I have a frind who uses Linux that has a DVD burner. If I were to take my backup CDs over to his place, could he make such a DVD, or would I need to bring my originals? I'm assuming that such a DVD would work on a combo drive without problems.

Also, is there an FAQ on any special procedure that needs to be done to make it, or do I just copy all the files from all the CDs to one folder, and burn the folder?

Sorry to put all the questions, but if I do this, I'd like to get it right the first time because it's something of a pain to buy a single blank DVD, pull the CDs from the game case and put them in jewel cases, haul it all to a friend's computer and use his equipment to burn it. 4GB is a considerable amount of HD space.

Well considering the expantionpack is your buddies this would technically be considered piracy, so don't talk about it.

If you buy your own expantionpack (you should be able to grab it through one of the sorcerers links i guess), you are allowed to make "1 backup" of your own cd's, then you could do that.

Hard drives are really so cheap today that I can't imagine you not being able to afford even a second-hand one over E-bay or your local equivalent. You should be able to get a used 60GB drive for less than $10.
