    According to the story, his soon-to-be-ex-wife was "not pleased". I can imagine.

    It has been done before - several times actually. We had a guy in the suburb that I live in who tried to do it several years ago but the entire house was rendered completely unstable after his cutting and he was unable to take his half. I am pretty sure that they ended up having to demolish the house.

    If the guy was even remotely brilliant he would have chosen to pay for the house, let his wife handle the rest (bills and stuff like that), and then when she wants to divorce, throw her out and keep the freaking house. I know that's what I would do.

    That's awesome! However, cutting his wife in half with a chain saw might make more of a mess...but if he does it right, and knows how to play his cards...he'll get to keep the house, the car, and everything else...all without the stress of divorce! :evil: :p

    Back to the main subject though...since the wife usually gets the house, it's nice to see someone make the wife regret demanding the house from her divorce lawyer. :thumb: :rolling:

    While it is true that the wife usually gets the house, she has to pay the husband off for the value of the house.

    Assuming the house wasn't just purchased, chances are some amount of the value of the house is equity, and, if there is a mortgage, some of it is still owed. Therefore, there are choices to be made in the settlement. If the house is entirely paid off, whoever gets to keep the house is expected to pay off the person who doesn't keep the house half of the property's value - or take less compensation in some other regard. However, in the case where most of the value of the house is owed on a mortgage, then general practice is that whoever continues paying the mortgage gets to keep the house.
