You can't. Go down into the slime area. There's also another passage from the room you are in, it's not hidden, it's just located in a mean spot. Took me two or three hours to locate when I first played it through. Don't ask why I hate dungeon parts in *any* game.

Why do you hate dungeon parts in every game?

Well BG is a RPG... and what would be a RPG without some dungeons? The game is based on Dungeons and Dragons so you also can expect some dungeons ;)

if there were no dungeons, then half of their skills are wasted

'and what would be a RPG without some dungeons?'

Well, I could think of at least a few answers to that... What's wrong with good old political scheming and investigation? You don't need to put in dungeons near every small village. At least in real RPGs you don't need to move those characters around in tight passages when you're moving in dungeons. I really wanted to tear my hair out in places like Firewine and the Undercity, those mazes were pretty sadistic. Granted, BG is pretty much a hack n slash game, but that actually makes it even more important. I sure am glad the dungeon styles changed in BG2 and ToB.

Since I always liked to play thiefs I never had that many problems with dungeons of any kind - I'm glad that BG-2 found a way to make the thief invaluable by rewarding their skills in an environment lacking major dungeons (even watcher's keep isn't that much a real dungeon like firewine ruins area.

But I agree - the firewine area and undercity can be pretty annoying for their hordes of enemies (and worst of all, the kobold commandos with their fire arrows respawn so fast :( in firewine)

I, however, loved Durlag's tower, lot's of fun (the only thing I look forward to in awe is the fight with the greater dopplegangers and the greater wyvern :aww: for my party just has one tank (rest hiefs/ thief-mage, fighter-mage - maybe I need another able offensive spellcaster and a second tank there .... dynaheir and Minsc come to my mind ....)
