For fans of CNC Games like me:

Electronic Arts is celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Command and Conquer:

"From Yuri to Kane, Tanya to Scorpion, and Tiberian to Red Alert, the award-winning Command & Conquer series celebrates its 10 years of excellence and undying fan dedication this month."

The Community Showcase they have set up includes a list of Fan sites - such as "PlanetCNC" and "XWIS & Strike Team" - that are celebrating the 10 year anniversary by hosting special events, a must for hard-core fans. It also contains an Exclusive Community Interview with Louis Castle, as well as a "DEVELOPERS LOOK BACK" special that asks several Designers and staff members of the CNC game universe the question "What comes in your mind when thinking about C&C?".

I am I right here - but wasn't the original Command and Conquer done by Westwood? I'm assuming EA bought the rights at some point.

EA are begining to annoy me somewhat.

The problem with EA is that they don't think of any new innovations in gaming but they just stick with concepts that do work and keep upgrading them.

And why should they ? Because you say so ?

Rule number 1, never change a winning concept.

Off course not! Why the hell should they listen to me?

All I am trying to say is that some gamers don't like to play the games made by EA anymore because most games are sequals to other games. I haven't seen much innovative games coming from EA the last couple of years.

Actually Westwood was allways part of EA (if I'm not incorrect), they don't exist anymore and most that worked for Westwood now work for EA. The problem with EA IMO is that they stick with the same idea for their games, such as the sports games they create. That, and they don't tend to listen to their consumers.

EA is corrently working on Red Alert 3, after much requesting from the never dying CNC community. Most of the original Red Alert 2 staff members are working on Red Alert 3.

Seems we are going OT here but I'm sure that you'll agree that EA is good at making money - not at driving the games industry forward.

I obviously own a few EA games myself - but I am not foolish enough to buy the same sports title every year just to get the latest player names or some slight tweak they may have added (the idea for which they probably nicked from someone else) Sims anyone?

IMO a great deal of the piracy problems publishers have are down to the fact that new games are not much than a patch on last years version.

I'm sick of EA buying everything out, and lowering the quality of new games with each release. I haven't bought an EA game since Dungeon Keeper II.

CNC was great. Ten years ago. Then we got more of the same, followed by more of the same, followed by more of the same, followed by a minor overhaul in Generals.

I'm not best impressed by all that.

Well that's you. Personally, I love every CNC game (excluding generals) especially RA2. I remember the first time I played a CNC game was CNC for PS1 (or was it N64, not sure) I was hooked, been playing it since.

Hehe. Generals is my favorite of the bunch.

Of course, that's not saying all that much, but...

I bought the "Ultimate" pack of CnC:Generals a while back, after reading so many glowing reviews. I found it downright mediocre, and haven't played it since.

I regularly play Dawn of War, Age of Empires 2 w/ Expansion, Age of Mythology w/ expansion, Battle for Middle Earth, Rise of Nations w/ Expansion, Star Wars: GB w/ expansion. Even discounted, I feel like Generals was a waste of money.

One that note, I'm drooling for the release of Battle for Middle Earth 2. :)

Generals was a shame to the CNC universe, almost all hardcore CNC fans agree. Made simply for the money, same will happen to BG3 IMO.

And I'm drooling for more news on RA3 :D

Nope, they were part of SSI, then after splitting from SSI (in 1993 if memory serves) they allied themselves with Virgin Games for a couple of years, before being bought by EA in 1995.

Westwood had some really innovative stuff released between 1989 and 1995. Then there was C&C, and since then every game they released, up until their complete absorbtion by EA, has been "more of the same".
