I have beaten BG (not using TuTu...just the straight BG game) a few times before using 'Good' party but I recently installed TuTu adn have since played through Chapter 4 like three times trying to find the best 'evil' party to compliment my PC who is an half-orc fighter/thief.
My PC HAS to be an half-orc since the game does not allow full blooded orcs or half-ogres > :D and since I plan on importing to BG2 afterwards, he has to be a thief of some sort.

In my most recent game I have Jaheira, Kagain, Viconia, Edwin, Garrick(replaced by Eldoth just now) and my PC(half-orc F/T). This has me concerned because I do not want Skie and feel I really SHOULD have a Bard in the party. When I get to the gate am I going to have to recruit Skie(dumping one of my 'REAL' party-members) and send her to some horrible death by weaponless attack on sewer-nasties?

Also, from an aesthetic/RP perspective, I am not happy with Jahiera. Is there a reall viable evil replacement for her this late in the game considering my party's composition thus far? WHo is this Tiax person I see mentioned so much?

You can use Faldorn instead of Jaheira, although she is a single-class druid. You can find her in the druid settlement of Cloakwood. She offers to join your party when you are attacking the Cloakwood mines. She is more evil-oriented than a neutral character should be.

Tiax is an hilariously mad cleric-thief of Cyric that you can find that the entrance of the Flaming Fist, IIRC.

OK, if you wanted to play all evil, you've already missed out on one of the people you could have acquired - Shar-Teel who is on the basilisk area, east of the Frendly Arm Inn. She's a fighter, and BG1 is certainly a game where an extra tank never hurt. I agree that Jaheira does not really fit that party.

I'm assuming you arleady ran into Montoran and Xzar (spelling? the mage with him).

Other than those three, you have two other options, both gnomes. Tiax and Quayle. Quayle is a multi-classed cleric-illusionist, and he's found on the map with the bridge to Baldur's Gate, but he's on the other side of the bridge, so you can't pick him up until you get to Chapter 5. Tiax is a multi-classed cleric-thief, and he's in the southwestern sector of Baldur's Gate right outside of the Flaming Fist Headquarters. Neither are very good in my opinion, although if forced to take one along, I'd probably go with Quayle (you don't really need Tiax's thief abilities given your PC).

As for Skie - You don't ever have to pick up Skie if you do not wish to. She shows up if you enter the northwestern most part of Baldur's Gate. However, there is no reason that you HAVE to go there, if you do not wish. There are a few sub-quests up there, but there is nothing that is story-line critical that takes place in that map sector. If you do, then yes, you'll have to have some horrible death befall her.

If I play evil, I usually go with:

    Kaigan
    Shar-Teel
    Viconia
    Edwin
    Montoron

This allows my PC to be whatever the heck I want him to be. The only way I wouldn't take this group is if my PC was a thief or multi-classed thief, in which case I'd drop Montoron for Eldoth, Xzar and maybe even Quayle as a backup cleric and backup mage.

    @Colthrun

Yeah, i know. I just don't see a single classed druid fitting in my party(would mean selling a whole lot of gear and then having to get new gear for the druid. Not to mention all the other headaches. Plus Jaheira is one of my front line tanks using the Dagger of Venom). Maybe if Faldorn were available earlier in the game I would bother with her.

I remember now. When I encountered him before I was playing 'good' so I just blew him off.

    @Aldeth

Yeah I know about her. SHe is the one who challenges someone to a duel or something? I think that by the time I was ready and able to go get her it was already too late to think about another single classed fighter but then again maybe not...

One thing that has screwed up my game is that when I installed TuTu I somehow accidently made Kagain a 'Wizard Slayer' (instead of the standard Fighter kit). So he cannot use any girdles, gauntlets, rings etc.(although he is awsome against spellcasters when he closes in on them).
I might just replace Jahiera with Shar-Teel and let Vicky handle the entire Clerical load but this sounds dicey.

Is it possible NOT to run into them? They are right down the road from where Imoen joins you. I had to lose them because I did not need another F/T(especially a sucky one like Monty) and Edwin stomps Xzar as a Mage. I typically will have no more than 2-3 single-classed characters(a cleric, a mage adn some type of tank) in a party and the rest are multi or dual classes to serve multiple functions(or one is a Bard for the same reason).

Yeah the only way I could see recruiting Quayle would be to replace Eldoth IF I replace Jaheira with Shar Teel. That would still give me two clerics ADN two mages while maintaining two frontline tanks.
    IIRC his stats suck though.

    Exactly.

    Hmm...decisions.

Damn...now you kind of have me wanting to start over...AGAIN! But maybe I will just try out replacing Jah' with Shar and/or Eldoth with Quayle.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

    Tiax is ace. :)

I'm actually playing Tutu with an Evil - aligned party now, and the lineup is:

Arrokhar - the PC, a NE halforc Cleric/Thief multiclass.
    Xzar.
    Montaron.
    Kagain.
    Edwin.
    Viconia.

It all seems to work well - Montaron, Xzar and Edwin provide ranged support while Arrokhar and Kagain engage the foe closeup. Viconia casts a lot. ;)

    Tiax is underrated.

16 dex means he is an average thief, but his low wisdom(12?) doesn't hinder his spellcasting ability, it just removes some bonus spells you would have gotten. Nothing important really.

He also have the summon ghast ability which can be used once a day and is REALLY good. Probably one of the best in the game.

I had him against Minsc in a duel with no preperations, at all, and no potions and only basic equipment, both at full level, about 30 metres from eachothers. I had Minsc attack Tiax with a bow and Tiax summoned his Ghast immediatly and therefore I sent in Minsc to attack Tiax up close. When Minsc got close he managed to get in two hits on Tiax but as soon as Tiax got his barkskin up the battle was practically over.
The ghast continued to hit Minsc and as Minsc finally got to hit Tiax but when Minsc was down to 5 hitpoints he was forced to berserk. When he did this, I lost control over him, and he attacked the Ghast instead. During this time, Tiax casted a few magic stones and together with his sling and the ghast's attacks Minsc soon fell. I used my best tactics for both of them, so it wasn't any unfair fights.

Therefore, I would call Tiax pretty useable, as Minsc is one of the better characters in the game.

Well, even though I am going through without TuTu, it is still pretty similar. I have:

    Me (Chotic Evil Halfling Fighter/Thief)
    Kagain
    Xzar
    Montaron

And I plan to ditch the crazy duo and pick up:

    Edwin
    Viconia
    Shar-Teel
    Tiax

I think this should work nicely, as Tiax is just there for colour.

Ditched Eldoth for Quayle and am now going after Shar Teel(whom I will ditch Jaheira for). This will give me two tanks, two clerics, two mages and my PC who is a Fighter - thief(serves as the archer/backstabber/trapfinder and supplemental/backup tank). After I get Shar I am going to go kill Drizzt!

So far I am only missing the Bard for the insane Lore but even then I am not exactly missing him. Quayle seems to be able to ID most items without even using spells/scrolls anyway.

Now to visit the "What should be in BG3?" thread to voice my opinion on RPCs/NPCs(there needs to be MORE! to cover bases in parties regardless of whether you are good/evil or somewhere in between.).

If you are playing evil, you should be running around with Drizzt's Scimitar. Just pickpocket it if you don't want to fight him.

I've completed evil several times now...

    PC - Bard
    Kagain
    Shar-Teel
    Viconia
    Safana
    Xzar

    PC - Mage/Thief
    Kagain
    Viconia
    Faldorn
    Eldoth
    Skie

...as long as you've got Kagain tanking it for you and have plenty of summons then it is fairly straight forward. This is why Faldorn is so good, because she can summon quite a lot of animals to help plus some dire wolves.

Question: I just replaced Jaheira with Shar Teel and when I picked up Shar she was only level TWO! The rest of my party are at 5-6(when I picked up Quayle he was level 5/5 or 5/6 or something). Considering I had to go through that damned Firewine dungeon(something I always put off until late in the game) AND the bassilisk area to get to her this seems odd that she is the one RPC who does not "match" your party's average level when you find her.

On the bright side, she hit level 3 and then 4 rather quickly and even at level TWO she was outfighting Kagain and Vicky for some reason! She is a Berserker kit(must have selected it when I installed TuTu *shrug).

This party is working out VERY nicely now. If I were not planning on importing my PC into BG2 then I would have probably went with Eldoth and Skie(probably would have killed Skie off though and used Safana) but in BG2 evil options are the suck as far as RPCs go(especially thieves).

My latest evil party consist of:

    1. PC - Druid
    2. Kagain - Fighter
    3. Montaron - Fighter/Thief
    4. Viconia - Cleric
    5. Eldoth Kron - Bard
    6. Edwin - Conjurer

My tactics is - no ranged weapons, only one "tank" (Kagain) and a lot of magic users (druid, cleric, bard, wizard). This definitly brings new experience to good old BG1! And I think druid and bard are the most challenging and interesting classes to play.
