Anyone ever played in, or DMed a campaign based on Medieval/Shakespearean Italy?

My DM has a place like that in his world. The customs and fashions are similar, and they speak a roamantic type of language. It's an island called Vistryth.

I, personally haven't campaigned much in those parts, but our ship did stop there once as a layover when it was destined for a more distant port.

Did your campaign have mostly firearms and swords, or was it just normal kinds of weapons involved?

TBR: Do you mean Italy during the middle Renaissance (during the Elizabethan era in which Shakespeare lived and wrote) or the Italy that he often wrote of - which is late medieval, pre-Renaissance Italy.

Most of the campaigns I've played in or DMed are geared towards early Medieval Europe (1200-1300s) with some other stuff thrown in here and there.

The campaign as a whole is very eclectic, with our characters traveling all over the natural (and sometimes unnatural) world. The technology loosely reflects that of the Elizabethan times, in the civilized areas. Different cultures, however, have different levels of technology.

There are firearms allowed in the game, but they are very rare, and highly specialized. There, in the whole campaign, have only been two arquebus (spelling?). One owned by an npc, and one very briefly in the hands of a pc. Swords are most prevalent, but some characters have other weaponry. As with everything, it has to have a darn good reason to be there.
