Favourite Live Bands?

Discussion in 'Whatnots' started by The Amazing Ooopah, Jan 21, 2001.

  1. [IMG] I'm going to see the Deftones for the 3rd in March in Manchester, so I was just wondering what everyone's favourite live bands are?

Mine has to be Deftones (I love crowdsurfing, cept for when you get to the end and the security guards beat the shit out of you :)).

[IMG] Well the best one for me was definitely Metallica two years ago or so, when they had a concert here.
Thank God they played most of the good old ones. I really had a great time on that concert. Lost one of my shoes when the whole many thousand-headed mass of people started swaying back and forth and so on. You get the picture. Someone stepped on my shoe, and another bounced me to the side, and it was gone. Kinda annoying. :D

But anyway, after the show was over, I scoured the whole stadium and actually found it. It was like 300 meters away from where I was standing. During the show it also flew through the air like 5 times, at least. (I've seen it there so many times anyway). I wonder how many people got knocked out by it since it was a pretty heavy one. Hehe.

Definitely one of the more interesting live performances I've been to. :p

I saw Widespread Panic (if anyone here knows who they are) about two months ago. A phenominal performance. They played a one hour set and then a three hour set. These guys are masters of improvisation, I've since learned that they don't make set lists. They are so in tune with one another that while they are jammin', they know when to whip into a partivular song, all the while teasing you with a few licks from this song or that song. Just when I was sure they were going to play one song - boom - at the snap of a finger they would simultaneously whip into something else entirely. The dynamics were right on, and their percussionist went on a 20 - 30 minute solo that just can't be described, or duplicated. Best $25 I've ever spent, and I can't wait for a chance to see them again.

If you haven't heard of them, I strongly advise that you check them out. They're a jam band, not unlike Phish, the Grateful Dead, or the Allman Brothers Band.

Metallica live is an awesome show! It's been a while since I've seen them, but they have a lot of energy!

I also like Live live (although the last time I saw them they were playing smaller venues).

I saw the Monsters of Rock tour with Metallica during the Master of Pupets tour. A great show. I also saw their Black Album, but is was just OK.

I think the best band I ever saw live was U2. They are just OK in disc but live they are unreal. My second runner up would be Rush.

I would love to see Metallica live, but they were here in '93 and haven't been back in awhile. b/t/w did anyone else hear that Jason Newsted left the Band? Bummer.

Live was also decent,I saw them last year. Also, went to a 3DoorsDown, Creed, and Sevendust concert last year and that was a slamming show.

Widespread is pretty damn good. never seen them live, but i hear they put on a good show.

well i used to see the Dead live, but not anymore for obviuos reasons. but the best bands i have seen live recently would have to be Los Lobos. very sweet shows, they never took a break. Leftover Salmon puts on a great live show. talk about energy. man these guys rocked, plus they let you tape thier shows. last but not least, Melvin Taylor and the Slack band just wail heavy live blues. Melvin does a wicked version of Peter Gun. well thats about it for now. but i am sure i can come up with a few more.....
