Fax machine without phone cable?

    [​IMG] So, I have this old fax machine that I'd like to make functional again. The problem is, the only place in the house that I have room for it has no phone cable connection. At best I'd have to drill through a few walls and lay down meters of cables to get a cable there, and for an old phone cable, that just makes no sense. Phones in the house are already ISDN and wireless is set up, but this doesn't really help me since that fax needs an old analog connection. I have a couple of jacks available for that on the main NT, but this is far away from the fax machine.

    So I'm wondering if anyone knows of any relatively cheap means that I could set up some kind of wireless connection to that fax? I've been thinking about it and nothing comes to mind.

    You can always co-opt your electric wiring. This type of technology is probably your best bet.....if you're willing to spend the dough. It'll cost you about $50-100 to set it up, but it's completely non-invasive, and you can move your fax anywhere you want with it.

    As it turns out, there's no such device to be bought anywhere in continental Europe, for reasons unknown to me. There are plenty of them in the US, a few are available in online stores in UK/Ireland, but not a single one to be found anywhere around here. Since they are relatively expensive, I'd rather not risk getting them from overseas, since they might not work using a transformer. I guess I'm back to square one. :bad:

    There's also a wireless version of the same technology....but the range is a bit more limited (but, unless you live in a mansion, this shouldn't be a problem). I don't know if this will be any easier to find for you, but these would work with a power converter if you had to use one.

    I'd even prefer wireless technology like that, but no, it's equally unavailable here. I'll give a few of our tech stores a call though and ask why they don't carry any. In the worst case, I can order one from the US, but I'd rather get them here along with some warranty. Thanks for looking it up.

    No worries. Since I used to sell VOIP (which can often entail some rather bizarre wiring solutions), I'm real familiar with this kind of tech. It only took me a few moments to find since I already knew what I was looking for.
