    I am curious. Is there any armour in BG that can be used by Fighter / Mages without losing spell casting abilities? á'la Elven chain in BG2?

    No, but you can use a robe that has AC 5 (sadly, it does not stack with any bracers, best bracers in BG1 are AC6 (bonus of 4))

    Ahem, it combines with rings of protection (+2 best)

    I didn't know that!
    I've been using it on Kivan.
    My PC will have to give it a try, but the +1 saving throws and the +5 MR is nice from the Robe of the Good Archmagi.

    [​IMG] Whenever I've played, my fighter/mage has never been able to cast spells while donning Drizzt's Chain. What gives?

    Is that mod any good? I heard it was riddled with bugs and not very good :confused: .

    Or am I thinking of a BG2 mod? :s

    A little off topic, but what do you think of DSoTSC people? :)

    DSotSC has bugs, but not so many as people often think. It mostly re-uses BG's original areas, has many overpowered items and some very irritating foes. It's good mod, if you want more dungeons and hard fights.

    I didn't think DSotSC was buggy at all, TDD(The Darkest Day) for BGII was the real buggy one ;) It's definately worth playing if you can download it :)

    I've never tried myself if casting spells with Drizzt's chain works, but I heard about it from numerous sources over the years. Maybe someone could check it out in BG1?

    I check it earlier.

    You can't cast spells while using it, but it has no effect on thieving skills :)

    I just checked as well.
    The spells go blank... :(
    No good for Mages, but Thief skills work great for Rangers and I'd guess Bards too. I don't have a Bard so I don't know.

    :yot: Can Bards cast magic with their Chain Mail on? With Drizzt's Chain Mail? I've never used a Bard.

    :yot: Coran is a Fighter/Thief so he can wear it too, but could a single class thief wear Drizzt's Chain armor? I should have checked with Imoen the last game... :rolleyes:

    Bards can't cast spells while wearing any armor (except 'real' elven chain) because their magic is arcane (like the wizard) not divine (like cleric/druid).

    Then Bards are at a terrible disadvantage in BG1 aren't they? :(

    Makes me think twice about ever taking one...
    I hate the thought of clicking to the item screen in battle to put armor on and off every time I want to cast a spell.

    Not necessarily, since I once played a fighter/mage who didn't have any problems at all. And since in BGI the difference between F/M and Bard is much smaller then in BGII he should do well though. Never forget you can still wear the bracers of AC 6 which is only one less then a robe of the archmagi (best protection for F/M) and since there aren't that many needed bracers/gloves in the game this isn't that big of a disadvantage. Also don't forget they have spells to help them protect (Blur,Mirror Image,etc...).

    As for Drizzts chainmail...
    My mage can not wear it at all and neither can Imoen. Might have something to do with Tutu which I currently have installed.

    As for what to wear on your mage. Well, I always go for Robe of "Alignment" Archmagi. I haven´t found anything better in BG, which is sad.

    AC 5 is enough for a F/M i think. You can use Drizzt's deffender, Amulet of Protection+1(+2), 2 Rings of Wizardy, Boots of Speed, a +2 Shield, Helm of Balduran, Bracers of Weapon Exp.

    With that equipments -7 AC(18Dex), +15 magic missile, +2 damage bonus, 5 THAC0 bonus

    Not bad for a F/M...
