ok, i've read enough info on dual classing but still managed to screw on my first time...

    here's what I did:
My fighter at level12, dual-classes to Cleric. He loses all proficiency points spent in sharp pointy weapons... duh, totally forgot that!!!

I gain 2 proficiency spots and want to spent them both in Flails, but of course Clerics can only add one proficiency point per weapon. Second duh...

Wait, I say to myself - but I recall that Anomen could have Grand Mastery in WarHammers, no?

Then, idea - perhaps I will be able spend more than one point in a given proficiency, when I advance to level 12 in cleric class - there was somethning about "1st class is disabled until, blahblah..."

    Am I correct?

Of course, that would mean I made a mistake not dualling at level9, duh...

got any advice for this noober?

A hunch tells me that you'll still be barred from putting the additional prof points in later as well, since you'll only be levelling the Cleric class. Not sure though.

Anomen probably took those profs during his fighter stint.

Flails are *nice* for a cleric tho' in ToB. Do not dual wield with Crom unless you hate challenges.

You get the profiencys that Clerics can use when you get yer old clas back. Meaning that if you put profs in for example Long Sword, then you dont get those back, but if you put in WarHammer or any other Clericweapon you get them.

[IMG] I found it odd that Anomen could specialize as a fighter (all the way up to 5 points) but be a Cleric. My understanding of the PnP rules was that this was a no-no -- he retained an advancement benefit from a class he left behind. Not that I'm complaining, mind you, as 5 points of specialization + Crom Faeyr + Runehammer is a sweet deal.

A dual classed fighter/anything can get up to grandmastery even though he's no longer a fighter. May not make sense, but that's the way the game works.

Interesting -- when I dual classed Minsc to a cleric (which, by the way, he does a great job at w/ the right items), I couldn't advance him in two-weapon. Is this because he's a ranger as opposed to a straight fighter?

What REALLY sucked, though, was he couldn't use bows any longer.

@Spelladonna - Correct. Rangers cannot get past specialized (unless you get a mod), so dualling Minsc won't help in that regard.

[IMG] Did you use shadowkeeper or someting to dual Minsc to a cleric? I always thought he couldn't dual out to anything because his relevant stats were too low. My memory may be shot, but I don't recall that button being active on Minsc's screen. please advise!

Cleric was the only option when I dual-classed him, though I wanted to turn him into a thief. Oh well. I had already gone through Watcher's Keep and got him the 1 point of Wisdom from Lum's Machine. I can't remember if I hacked his Wisdom w/ SK or drank a potion of insight beforehand, (I probably hacked it) and he did just fine.

Btw, I need some ideas on new char - what's your suggestion for a pretty efficient dualclass char?

Kensai/Thief works well. The UAI cheese overrides the Kensai limitations.

Depaara ---AFAIK ,You can't dual Minsc in normal ways.He has 9 Wisdom which is not enough for dualling, wsidom is the prime requisite of a cleric so for dualling you need 17(duh).You can dual him only with Shadowkeeper.

AFAIK when you dualclass a fighter into something else (a cleric in your example) you first lose all fighter abilities until you regain your fighter status after rising 1 level higher thefn that. Say you dualled at 9th level you have to rise too level 10 in the cleric class. However, after this you regain the fighter ability to become master in weapons, just remember that you can only do this with weapons allowed to clerics! Seeing as you start as a level 8 or 9 fighter in SoA (can't remember) You can dual really fast in this. I would suggest using first points three slots in dual-wielding (if you plan going that route (Flail of Ages+Crom feyer)) or weapon and shield style. And the other points in warhammers, maybe until master or highmaster (since in the beginning the flail is the best weapon for you) and maybe maces. weapons that you will not use often as a cleric in the beginning.

It's also important to note that weaponslots (WP) you take both with your fighter (before dualclassing) and cleric (during the rise in levels, before regaining the fighter levels) do NOT stack! For instance you give your fighter a slot in warhammers and after that you dual him, he will lose that slot for now. DO NOT use a slot gained by cleric levels on warhammer, for this slot will be lost! He will regain the slot when the fighter class is reinstated, overwriting the slot you've given as a cleric.

Thanks, Thunder, I restarted the char and did pretty much everything you said. He's going to go with Grand Mastery in Flails, followed by maces.
