Alright, here's the deal, I've returned from being imprisoned in Candlekeep, and now I'm back in Baldur's Gate. I already took care of business in the Undercellar, got the invitation to the Ducal Palace, and fought Sarevok there. I talked to Belt and he teleported me into the Theives' Guild.

The thing is, I don't want to follow Sarevok down the steps right away, I want to go outside, find an inn and rest, and I also need to meet up with Tomoko (sp?) outside the Flaming Fist building.

The problem is that the friggin Flaming Fist guards keep approaching me and trying to arrest me, even though I've already exposed Sarevok. I've managed to avoid the other Flaming Fist guys in Baldur's Gate looking for me, but these ones are right outside of the Thieves' Guild and approach me right when I get outside.

Is this some kind of bug that I'm just gonna have to deal with or what? Am I SUPPOSED to get arrested? I have a reputation of 20 BTW, they aren't trying to arrest me because of the lack of reputation, it's the whole framing deal from Candlekeep.

    Help a brother out!

BTW, I've had this game since it came out, but oddly enough I've never finished it. I have always quit once I get back to Candlekeep and never played through. Anyways, any help is appreciated... I did a search but nothing relevant really came up, just people complaining about being attacked due to poor reputation.

You can just run away from them or go through the sewers or turn off the AI so no one attacks the FF and walk away. I do agree that you should get arrested at least once, though I'm not sure how it affects the plot.

Unequip one weapon slot from everybody in your party and attack them with bare fists. You'll knock them out but not lose any reputation.

What? I've never heard of this strategy before, ever. Are you serious?

Stealth and invisibility spells to keep them safe from being spotted, and if you don't have enough you can use one or two stealthed characters to scout out a safe path to the sewer. Chapter Seven is all about the sewers: they're your safe mode of travel & they contain a necessary piece of the plot (Slythe and Kristin). I'm so familiar with the sewers that I have never gotten arrested in any of my times playing the game. (Not even Quayle did, BTW; I just looked at Neb's dialogue and extrapolated the story.)

When all else fails and you're spotted, resist arrest (but don't hurt them) and just run your ass off. Beating them up with fists works fine, since BG1 doesn't implement the 'hurt innocent' rep drop, but I prefer to just run because you take less damage that way. ;)

Reputation decreases only when you kill someone (of class Innocent or Flaming_Fist, by default). Since you can't kill anyone with fists (just knocks them down), your reputation won't go down obviously. However, they will wake up after some time so when you use the same path again, they will attack you. Charming them (also for getting some information of little value) with a spell or by using the Algernon's Cloak or if refuse to use that then the Nymph's Cloak also makes them harmless, but only for a limited time. (However, if I remember correctly, the Nymph/Algernon cloaks' effects are active for a very long time, unlike the unconsciousness.)

Note: After you've been arrested and you are free again, members of the Flaming Fist (with a few exceptions) will still try to arrest you.

I honestly had no idea you could knock an enemy out by using your fists. Coolness. :)
