This weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving (due to our northern latitude, our growing season is shorter than the Yanks) and I have a question for the people who really focus on food and health.

What is the best order to eat your food? I perceive the following food groups:

    Fruits and veggies

Carbs (rice, pasta, potatoes, corn, breads)

Proteins (basically, your meats. I don't do the vegetarian thing but you guys can chime in if you so desire)

    Desserts

Now, when you have a plate with, say, salad, potatoes, turkey and cranberry sauce, a dinner roll, and a piece of pie (on a separate plate) in terms of health which should you eat first? Middle? Last? I know my personal preferences, but that's just based on taste. I'm asking for a health evaluation from all you health nuts out there.

I always start with something from the beer group, then usually snack from the dessert group. Once I start eating the actual Thanksgiving dinner I simply gorge myself until I can't move -- which is why the beer and dessert are first; I don't have room after the meat, potato, stuffing, corn, cranberry sauce, rolls, deviled eggs, olives and salad (eaten using Brownian motion ... whatever my fork hits is next).

Once I can start moving again I usually shift back to the beer group.

Nice basic simple things. My gluttony me agrees with T2Bruno but I am a teetotaller.

Meaty things and fish first. Then veggies an fill up with carbs. Use fruits as sweets and deserts when you are bored.

Well, being raised in a overly Mormon family, Martinelli's Sparkling Apple Cider has always been staple in our Thanksgiving feast....and I like it so much, I haven't even considered replacing it with any type of alcoholic beverages.

There's usually a veggi platter consisting for carrots, celery, broccoli, and olives for pre-meal snacking.
Then comes the main meal...which is the traditional thanksgiving meal....turkey, ham, stuffing, 'funeral potatoes', yada yada yada....
Finally, my favorite part...the deserts! :yum:

I always thought fruits and vegetables were best to be eaten first, so your body can squeeze the max of vitamins out of them. I have some sort of policy that what digests fastest, gets in first. But I guess it's about how fast you eat as well.

I'm no nutrician, though, so don't come knocking on my door when you died stuffing yourself. :p
