[IMG] Here's a little something to make you old farts (yes you Bel ;) ) really feel old. I'm not sure how much of this is meaningful for our non-American friends, but certainly some of it will be. Here it is:

    -THE CLASS OF 2005
Just in case you weren't feeling too old today, this will certainly change
things. Each year the staff at Beloit College in Wisconsin puts together a
list to try to give the Faculty a sense of the mindset of this year's
    incoming freshman.

    Here is this year's list:

The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were born in
    1983.

They have no meaningful recollection of the Reagan Era and probably did not
know he had ever been shot.

They were prepubescent when the Persian Gulf War was waged. Black Monday,
1987 is as significant to them as the Great Depression.

There has been only one Pope.

They were 11 when the Soviet Union broke apart and do not remember the Cold
    War.

They have never feared a nuclear war.

They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up.Tianamen Square
    means nothing to them.

Bottle caps have always been screw off and plastic.

Atari predates them, as do vinyl albums.

The expression "You sound like a broken record" means nothing to them. They
have never owned a record player.

They have likely never played Pac Man and have never heard of Pong.

They may have never heard of an 8 track. The Compact Disc was introduced
when they were 1 year old.

As far as they know, stamps have always cost about 33 cents.

They have always had an answering machine.

Most have never seen a TV set with only 13 channels, nor have they seen a
    black and white TV.

    They have always had cable.

There have always been VCRs, but they have no idea what BETA was. They
cannot fathom not having a remote control.

They don't know what a cloth baby diaper is, or know about the "Help me,I've
fallen and I can't get up" commercial.

    Feeling old Yet? There's more:

They were born the year that Walkman were introduced by Sony.

Roller skating has always meant inline for them.

Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show.

They have no idea when or why Jordache jeans were cool.

Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave.

They have never seen Larry Bird play.

They never took a swim and thought about Jaws.

The Vietnam War is as ancient history to them as WWI, WWII and the Civil
War. They have no idea that Americans were ever held hostage in Iran.

They can't imagine what hard contact lenses are.

They don't know who Mork was or where he was from.

They never heard: "Where's the beef? ", "I'd walk a mile for a Camel, " or
    "De plane boss, de plane!"

They do not care who shot J. R. and have no idea who J. R. was.

The Titanic was found? They thought we always knew.

Kansas, Chicago, Boston, America, and Alabama are places, not rock bands.

McDonalds never came in styrofoam containers.

    There has always been MTV.

They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter.

    Do you feel old yet?

[IMG] That was painful...I DO remember all that stuff!

Back in my day....Baseball cards were .50 per pack. You could go to a movie for a buck, We had those little "S" shaped thingys needed to play 45's...

Luckily, I continue to have the mentality of a 15 year old...Otherwise, I'd be sad right now!!! :D

ehhhh? You gotta speak up sonny, can't hear you. or Maybe a larger font will be easier on these old (hard contact wearing) eyes. :p

I got out of bed this morning feeling like I could take on the world! Now I think I'll run to Walgreens, buy some Geritol, Metamucil & Depends, and go home to watch Matlock all day long.

    :D

BETA was Sony's standard for VCR tape recording. It was supposedly better than VHS, but VHS became more popular and BETA died.

Mork was from Ork; it was a silly sitcom way back when called Mork and Mindy. Mork actually had his intro on a Happy Days episode.

Beta was similar to the VCR only the tapes were a different size and it had a different format. It was marketed almost exclusively by Sears, and since they would not share, the rest of the market made up there own, the VCR. Needless to say, it pays to share. Mork was a character created by Robin Williams (a long time ago) who first appeared on an episode of "Happy Days" then was used in a spinoff show called "Mork and Mindy". As far as the rest, you are only as old as you feel.

What about playing RPG's on the old TI65's like Pyramid or Amazon, and Bard's Tale on my Comador 64?

Do you remember the first Zork?

    "The troll lunges for you."
    Command: "Stab troll with knife"
    Command: "Stab troll with knife"
    Command: "Stab troll with knife"
    "The troll dies"

Back in the late 80's Bill Gates even said that 56Kbps would be enough for ANYONE. LOL Bill the prophet.

Actually Gates said that 640kb of memory would be enough for everyone. ;)
If it even was Gates... Details slip my mind.

[IMG] Ouch!! That hurt. Especially because today's my birthday.

A few others to add to the list (I'm a glutton for punishment):

Remember waking up at 4 a.m. (or some ungodly hour) to watch the first shuttle launch?

Do you remember where you were when you heard John Lennon was shot?

(for the Canadians and others who may know) Do you remember the day Terry Fox ran through your town?

Ron Howard was still "Oppy" or "Richie Cunningham"

The Who and The Rollingstones were still touring for the first time, and weren't old.

You'll have to excuse me now -- I need to take out my teeth and rest my weary bones....

[IMG] Talking to people in the chat room, I realized that none of them knew who KIT was (beyond our own famous Kitiara).

I'm talking about Knight Industries Two-Thousand from the wonderful show Knight Rider . . . starring David Hasslehoff before Baywatch.

No wonder people give me blank looks when we are watching Baywatch and I say, "I can't wait for him to be running into the water, and yell into his watch 'KIT, I could use some help here!' "

[IMG] Gnolyn, it's scarry but I do remember watching the first shuttle launch. :(

And, Mat, even after all the work - what was the techs name, April? - done on KIT I don't think they ever got him into the water. "I'm sorry Michael I can't do that." So much for Michael Arthur Long...
