[IMG] I was wondering whether a char with sufficient strength would be able to force open chest locks, cause I found for some reason that you can attack chests, and a message popped up saying : "You could not force open the lock" or something similar.
So in theory, if you had something like 25 STR would you be able to do that?

[IMG] Yes. It is possible and works with locked doors as well. It also depends on the difficulty level of the lock (some locks give more xp than others when opened by thiefs [ :D yes, when a thief opens a lock ge gains xp - unlike a fighter who uses brute force :D ]) if you are able to open it with high strength. But this is not elegant.

And: Some chests and doors can't even be opened that way since you need a key.

And anyway - thieves rule :D

  3. I've tried it after drinking potion of storm giant (or whatever the best strenght potion is called) strenght and I could not do it. So I don't think it is possible...

Great, you posted one minute ahead of me Ragusa, and making this reply unessesary and maybe a little embarrasing

With a strength of 25, you still only have an 80% chance of bashing open a door or chest. Just keep trying. :)

And if you do bash locks you don't get the experience that you'd get for picking them.

I forced open many locks in BGI, but have been completely unsuccessful in forcing any locks in BG2. Now that my thief NPC is of sufficient level I don't worry about it anymore.

Assuming that most of the chests/doors are not magical, I find it a bit strange how once you've failed to break open something, you can't just bust out a huge axe and chop the door/chest open. I just angers me
