I have a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 graphic card that worked just fine for 3 years, then suddenly, it can't get its driver loaded and acts like a really inferior graphic card. I can get it loaded back, but I have to delete the current driver and reinstall the driver, with three system restarts in-between. Plus, it only lasts for one login. After that, it can't load again. I tried Nvidia support, but they sure aren't helpful at all. Any advice?

Open the case, clean up the dirt, and put it back in. Remove all old drivers and install the newest ones. Or better yet: format. If you have recently installed some other hardware or software, it might have caused some conflicts, so check that too.

If those don't help, you might need a new card. Unlike, though, since most of the errors are in the software.

I tried formatting, didn't work, and the card works fine in other computers. Maybe it's a mainboard problem or a glitch with the Windows CD I'm using. It does get the blue screen pretty often and seems a bit unstable.

The problem is the new drivers are not intended for the old cards. Newer and newer cards are listed as no-nos in the info about new drivers when you download them. Not sure if 4200ti is on the black list or not yet. It's a shame, really, because it's such a great card, more powerful than most of its successors. If you get a new card, you really don't want any of the FX-es or you will probably actually suffer a speed decrease.
