"Needed it to run Neverwinter "

    Lol!

Gawd, that's the truth. It takes a "Tiny-God" to run that expansion...

[IMG] Given I had the appropiate funds I'd almost take the mashine I was asked to build for a friend, with some minor improvements:

    -1,6 GHz AMD Athlon-XP
    -512 MB DDR RAM
    -ASUS Motherboard
    -IBM 40GB 7.200rpm hdd - maybe a 10.000 rpm :spin:
    -Geforce-4 (the orinal mashine has a puny GF-2 :D )
    -Creative Gold something ;)
    -dolby surround sound system
-48 DVD/ ROM drive, primary slave
-24x cd writer (I have an 8x only), secondary master ;) to allow on-the-fly copying ...

    -21" LCD screen !!!

Up to that day I have to live with my little cutie: 650 MHz Athlon on ASUS A7V-133 board, 320 MB 133MHz RAM, 20GB 7.200 rpm hdd, Elsa Gladiac 721 w 64 MB DDR RAM, 48x DVD-ROM, Mitsumi 8x/ 6x/ 24x CD-RW-Writer. Belinea 17" screen. Sound is on board :(
The only thing my comp lacks is processing power, so if I go mad one day I probaly go and replace my motherboard, RAM and CPU (in half a year or a year or so)

[IMG] Compaq comps ...:rolleyes: ... I just say I suffer using them at work ...

I'm a keen fan of self-composed PCs. When you know what you need and want, no off-the-shelf PC of the same price will beat them in terms of reliability and overall performance. The Compaqs I know for example tend to have horrid compaq service, slow hdds, little RAM and exotic yokohama (synonym for hardware no one has ever heared of ... especially when you suddenly need the drivers ) motherboards ... :flaming:
I found that off-the-shelf PCs usually have two major weaknesses: slow hdds (offering size instead) and poor, cheap motherboards.

My personal morning rant ...:coffee:

I finally got a decent PC.
    Old:
    500 Mhz
32 Mb RAM, switched to 160 Mb for BG2 way back.
    Cruddy vid card/cruddy sound card.
    Cruddy monitor (tiny).

    New:
    1.4 (G)hz (you knew what I meant!)
    256 Mb RAM
128 Mb vid card (ATI Rage)
    17" monitor.
A good enough sound card that I don't have to worry about it.

Not the best in the world, but enough for me.
We'll see what comes next I guess. I can't believe I went so long with such a cruddy PC!

[IMG] Hey as a added bonus my motherboard talks every time I start it up. (The traditional female AI voice)

    It says something like this:

"Boot test complete, starting OS interface."

    It's hi-tech stuff

It happens to the best of us. I was laughing my ass off when I read Seymour's article in a couple of PC Mags back when he was bragging about his system with 1 MB of memory, repeatedly. :p

    Pentium 4 1.3 GHz
    256 megs of RDRAM
    40 gig hard drive
    lowly ;) Geforce2
    Cable Internet (rocks!)
    Altec Lansing surroundsound
    19' monitor

I'd say it's over a year old. It'll run Icewind Dale 2 just fine, so who cares about NWN? Heh.
