Since almost everyone on here recommends using another explorer besides MS Internet Explorer, I'm going to take a look at some of the other browsers.
But when I find one I like, how do I get rid of MS IE? There is no option to uninstall it from the control panel. Or is it so integrated into windows that its impossible to remove it?

*Since this is sorcerers.net, IE = internet explorer not Infinity Engine.

IE is part of the windows, remember the anti monopoly lawsuit? Keeping IE as your default browser while using another browser is, another to look at it, good. i have been using netscape and keep IE as the default. Doing so, unwanted adware will only attack your default while you use only other browser.

IIRC "WindowsVersionLite" can remove IE but not using third party software it's pretty much impossible.

Really how are you going to update windows without IE, and why even uninstall IE when you can just *not* use it?

Done that. Does nothing. Just hides the iexplore.exe somewhere.

The first time i removed it, clicked the inbuilt "Windows Update" link... and surprise surprise, Windows Update opened in Internet Explorer. :p

    All you can do is...

...Remove IE desktop icon from the properties. You might as well remove all offline files and cookies while at it. ;)
...From Install/Un-install set default apps to third-party programs.
...And unless you use it for updates, deny all rights to access Internet. Then forget it.

    Hi there,
I've been using 'Opera' for over a year now as my default browser, and after the initial (un)learning curve, I never looked back... :)

However, as said above, depending on your needs, you may not be able to do away with Internet explorer completely. E.g. some banks, universities, etc. 'insist' on using 'it' and won't let you in if you are not 'IE-equipped'.

Personally, besides the above mentioned, I still use it to print webpages and to 'save webpages as' since a webpage is saved "more organized" than in Opera.

Good Luck finding the browser that best suits your needs... :)
