    What would you recommend for Doom3 and Half Life 2? I currently have GeForce 4 (64MB), but what would you get if you could to run these types of heavt graphics programs?

    Well, 64 megs should suffice for now, especially if you aren't going to upgrade that computer but rather buy a new one later. Otherwise, I would say at least 128 megs. Whether GeForce or Radeon, that's a matter for a whole flame war. :shake: :lol: ;)

    In my times, Ati was for engineering and Nvidia was for games (not to mention 3dfx was still in the market), but things are no longer so simple. There's been a couple of GFX card topics, so you could browse them for some recommendation as to what you could buy if you decide to go for a new one.

    Any Radeon or GeForce costing $150 (USD) or more and you'll be set for a while. The cheaper you buy them the less performance you'll get, so it's really easy - it's just a matter of how much you're willing to spend on a graphic card.

    Technically, the GeForce 4 MX(which is less powerful than the GeForce 3), is enough to play Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 and look good while doing it. However, if you want better framerates and visuals, you could always upgrade to a GeForce 5 series graphics card or a Radeon 9600-9800 and still not spend too much.

    Now is a good time to upgrade, as both ATI and nVidia are releasing their new cards. These new cards are geared to run the new engines in D3 and HL2, and offer the newest shader support so you can run these games at their near best, or best settings and get good frame rates. ATI is thought to be best for the new HL engine, while nVidia seems to have the edge in D3. But you can't go wrong with either one.
