At the startled looks on Maron’s and Nakia’s faces the priests started gently laughing and then he explained “Politics between our respective temples means that you can’t ask for it, and I can’t just give it to you; one of the advantages of being old is you can bypass the usual umm ‘niceties’ shall we say. It is time the pipes were in the world again according to Alleiea and this way your temple can gloat a little, mine can be outraged a little and everybody is happy and we of course can laugh at the inside joke. I’ll explain about everything else when you’ve finished.

Dalamar Maximus -

Holon woke up again, but more quietly. He took the time to survey is suroundings. Hanging upside down, really hurt the head and it made it more difficult to make out the area in the dim light. He was in a leather tent, tied to post shaped like a T. He couldn't see Beratli, so he tried the link.

Beratli?... Beratli are you alright?

No anwser.

Beratli!?

Holon was starting to panic, until he heard a soft moan either in the mind link or in the tent.

"Beratli?" Holon dared to whisper, but even that was too loud and it caught the attention of a very wary Weygip. Holon realized why they were giving him special treatment, they wanted him to be bait for the others. Holon groaned at the pain of a heavy club making contact with his head. Blackness and stars were becoming common.

Atten looked around frantically. The creatures were closing on all sides. There was no sign of Nakia. Ciana was about to be crushed. Elendia and the others were struggling in one on one battles with seemingly invincible enemies.

The only way they were going to get out of this mess would be if they could somehow change the odds.

But what could Atten do without access to the power of the living force that he knew so well. If only he could access other powers. He had to think. Think. He had to try and remember his old lessons. Think. Think.

But there was no time to think! In seconds, all would be lost.

How could he find some other power? What power? How could he use his knowledge of the living force in another way? He knew that the living force was a combination of other elements. Sepp has tried to tell him that. But how to unlock that? And what power? What was the essence of life?

Water? All life required water – but a corpse had water as well.
Earth? Too slow. Too unfamiliar?
Fire? The spark of life? No, for someone brought up in the forest, fire was too dangerous.

Spark…..

Time seemed to slow around Atten. Seconds passed like hours. Ciana was being crushed further into the ground by the giant foot.

Spark….

Another sort of spark?

Time all but stopped for Atten. Pennies dropped in his mind as he realised exactly what it was that was missing from this whole area. He realised what it was that made the undead so different from the living. He realised what it was that made a corpse different from a living creature. He realised what the power was that he was really most familiar with.

The real spark of life.

Everything stopped. In a fleeting instant, the world around Atten changed. The air seemed to transform into millions of vibrating spots. More spots around his friends than around the monsters. Atten concentrated and channelled the spots into one great aligned field. Channelled them all in one direction.

He felt a prickly sensation as if he his hair was all standing up. The air seemed to become dry around him. A bit like the feeling before a storm.

And then…..

ZAP.

Atten was blinded as a massive bolt of lightning crackled out of the sky, directly into the creature over Ciana. The creature was flung to the ground and flailed around uncontrollably before becoming still.

The other monsters were unaffected, and there was no way Atten was going to be able to pull that electrical feat off twice (he wasn’t 100% sure how he done it in the first place), but now the party was no longer completely surrounded. And more importantly, Ciana was free. The odds had been changed.

This one had me really laughing out loud.

Saga of the fearsome tree squirrel.

"Aaargh! Not more battles!" complained Atten angrily. He really wished people wouldn't keep attacking them all the time!

Strangely, Atten found that his anger (along with a good night's rest) provided a bit of energy for his otherwise diminished powers. Without too much effort (and possibly against his conscious wishes) he managed to transform into the only wildshape he had ever previously attained, that of the fearsome tree squirrel.

Atten the squirrel scampered menacingly at one of the orc shaman, raced up it's body and bit the brute in the ear. The shaman batted the squirrel away easily, but had to restart its spell from the beginning again.

"Ow, ow, ow, ow"

Atten landed safely, but soon found that the hot desert sands were burning his unbooted squirrel feet. He quickly changed back into human form and looked to see what would happen next.

I like this, it shows that Kelvados and Delinos, still have problems and there may be more fights ahead. And Elwithral masterfully put it to words.

Delinos thought as he made his way through the burning sand and scorching sunlight. The brothers always knew that the other had the blood of a Drow, and was therefore always unpredictable and unreliable. Why would this time be different?

He did realize that since they had departed from the Underdark, they had become closer, and more brother like. They trusted each other. But the Underdark had trained them, as did their trainers and family, that they would have to be prepared for a betrayal from everyone and anyone, and that this could not change the way they acted around the person, because putting up a facade and lying would get you farther than being yourself and telling the truth. Kelvados had indeed changed. Delinos had brushed aside what his brother had said earlier because he had believed that in his blind rage it meant nothing. Now that he thought back, Delinos took into account what his brother had said, and took it hard.

"You're right brother," he whispered under the howling wind, "It will never be the same. Nothing will."
