[IMG] I just started to read Player's Handbook and when I reached chapter 7: Equipment I sensed something strange... "Where are the helmets?" I thought, then I went to the Index and I couldn't find it also.

Helmets don't work in D&D as they do in the CRPG. They don't offer the automatic protection from critical hits, and in most cases are considered to be part of a normal suit of armour, unless specially designed or if it is magical in nature.

What do you need to know about helmets specifically? Most info is probably only found in the DM guide.

Metal armor should come with an appropriate helmet. As I recall, leather armor (or hide) doesn't come with headgear. In any case, helmets aren't considered enough defense to provide additional AC, or to protect critical hits.

Of course, you can always make a house rule saying otherwise.

helmets do however take up a slot on the limited magical items worn list, making them valuable there. "Standard" (most fullbody steel) armor suits come with helments and gauntlets.
