I have cleared the Nashkel Mines, and received the reward of the mayor.

The walkthrough sais I should get an assasination attempt near the Nashkel Inn - none of that.

Then, when I arrive to Beregost, neither Elminster. nor that child, nor Tranzig(sp?) show up.

I can't get on with the plot, WTF is wrong?

[IMG] Elminster and the child seem to show up for me when I walk near the Blacksmith's Forge (north of the Jovial Juggler, don't you wish they marked the city maps at least, bah BG2 spoiled) And shame on you for using the walkthrough first time through ;)

    I know, Big B, I know...

As I stated in my other post, I just don't have time to do it all myself.

If I do it the way it should be done, I will have to restart the game at least twice (from previous experiences) to get it right.

I just want to move over BG and ToSC with my char, and then play some BG2+ToB with it.

    Now back to topic:
You mean Thunderhammer's Forge? Nobody there.
And Trazig is not on the second floor of the Feldpost's(sp?) Inn. His room is empty.

Elminster will only appear after you talk to Volo the scribe at the Naskel inn. I just experienced the same thing. Go to the inn at Naskel (not the main one - the other one near where Edwin is) and talk to Volo and lesten to his tale. Now, if you go to Beregost, Elmister will appear. For me, he appeared as soon as I entered Beregost.

It's very simple. It is a bug. You got the reward, but everything happens like it was before you entered the mines. So in the script is (to say it rather clearly) Nashkelminescleared=0. The best thing to do is when you got a savegame from in the mines (or before) to install the latest patch and finish the mines again. I think that's the only solution to this. (unless someone knows what you have to change in the script-file)

Just clearing the mines is not enough, you also have to retreive the letters from the chest where Mulahey is located. I know that if you donot take the letters out of the chest, the game will not move into chapter 3. Check your journal, if you haven't reached chapter 3, then that is your problem. If you are in chapter 3 then it must be a bug.

Thanks everyone, and Baldak, you are 100% correct. I didn't take the letters from his chest, so I didn't move to chap 3.

I reloaded and did it again, and now I'm fine.

Just a little correction - Elminster does appear whether you talk to Volo or not, although I hope it'd be the other way around because I'm tired of that old fool pushing his nose in other people's affairs...

Don't get mad about Elminster. He was a friend of Gorion and only helps you. Indeed, the letters and Holy Symbol are also necessary to move to the next chapter.. Good luck!
