Help, task manager has been deactivated.

    Somehow my task manager has been deactivated. I don't know if malware/virus/whatnots has done this, or if it is a result of somehting I've done myself. I haven't been able to find any virus or malware on my computer.

    My question is whether I through some means can re-activate my task manager, as it is very annoying.

    If you type TASKMGR in the Run window from your start menu that should bring it up and running. :)

    Yeah, this happened to my Dad's computer after it become over-run by insidious malware. The only solution that I was able to find was to reinstall his operating system. It works so fast now, it's amazing.

    There are some patches on the web that automatically edit the registry to enable/disable access to the Task Manager in Windows XP and 2000, but I'd rather not run anything that plays with my registry files, thank you very much. In case you are interested, look for "task manager registry" in Google, and check the first results.

    If this happened recently and you have XP, try using System Restore to bring the system back to a date on which the problem wasn't there. Then, run your antivirus, and/or any other anti-spyware and anti-malware software that you may have.

    If the problem is not cured or comes back, go for the full system reinstall.

    Every problem has its solution! this little program will re-enable your task manager.

    I found loads of other solutions when searching the net, this was the easiest though ;)
