How was my fire elemental summons killed by a fireball spell?

I just had my druid summon a fire elemental in the frozen aquarium, moved him out to draw the salamander's & troll's attention, and had my mage toss a fireball at the swarm of enemies. To my surprise, the fire elemental took damage as well, and was eventually killed by a fireball!

Is this a bug? I'd expect it to be healed from fire damage, not hurt.

I guess it's intended to avoid makig the game too easy. Summons are often different from enemies of the same type.

I know, it sucks. :( It is lame when you have to cast protection from FIRE on your pet FIRE elemental! :p Wish a modder could fix it and many other things as well. (Tal Rashaaaa, I know you like IWD2, do you enjoy IWD as well? :shake: )

Are you certain about this? I tried reloading my previous game, cast "Summon Fire Elemental" (3 of them to be sure), then cast a hail of fireballs in their midst... but nothing, it always said that the elemental was immune to my damage. Do you have the TotL installed? 'cause the one I just tested only had HoW installed. Could it be that the fire elemental was killed by the salamanders cold aura instead of your fireball?

Wait...I must check it when I get home, I have both HoW and ToTLM  for quite some time but can not remember when I actually tried the elementals. Could be before or after the expansions though.
