[IMG] Yep, we are all living in a vacuum, and if what the reports about D&D Online and the 'Bioware Secret Project' are true, we'll won't be getting any decent cRPGs anytime soon (sorry for the pessimism).

With that in mind, what are your ideas for a potential new cRPG? What campaign settings/races/items/things would you like to see turned into code? What kind of game engine would you prefer? Feel free to post your thoughts on the subject in general.

Isn't that being made in Bioware's game under development, Jade Empire?

Hmm, I was actually thinking of D&D-based games (feel kinda more comfortable with them)

I want to see a game that, if you die, you are dead. You can't just reload. This might make people think twice about charging into that suicidal battle then reloading. In this game, things would be powered appropriately. If your character died, you might be able to have an NPC turn into the PC.

Also, I want to have some kind of transport! A horse or donkey or truck or something.

Weather effects in RPGs. Better RPG than NWN, but not totally Infinity Engine-style (so no 100% isometric view)

I don't mean to criticize, but the DnD crpgs aren't the end all and be all of computer roleplaying games. In fact I have never quite understood the obsession most people at these boards seem to have with them. There are plenty of other good games out there that have nothing to do with dnd, and sometimes they offer something that dnd can't.

As an aside, I may be the only person to think so, but I can't say that I am terribly dissapointed that either BG3 or FO3 were cancelled. Although I would have bought both, and maybe even enjoyed them, Bg isn't the same without Bioware and FO isn't the same without the original Black Isle bunch (of which there have been none left for a while). It could have been great, but they could have also beeen huge dissapointments that ruined what they had once been.

Regardless, I would say stop lamenting over the lack of DnD and go explore what else is out there.

(Another game set in the Planescape would be awesome... But no TNO, cause that would cheapen the original.)

I really don't care whether it uses D&D or not, though maybe not is better - then those making it won't think that they will only make profit by tagging on popular brands.

I think that a truly gritty cyberpunk game would be brilliant - or something space operaish. Failing that, gritty fantasy.

A RPG based on Terry Pratchett's 'Discworld' series - humour and epic adventure.

Fallout 3 - you know the series can go on... "War never changes." or "Life in the <something> (probably 'Republic' since the tribe joins with NCR at the end of Fallout 2) is about to change.

A RPG based on the 'Dune' series of books?

Standard issue Forgotten Realms RPG set during the present Forgotten Realms time (emerging of the Shadowvar) focusing on party and not just PC development, possibly using the NWN engine.

Mercedes Lackey's Heralds and their companions. You would need horses since thats how the companions appear. Lots of interesting characters. Romances to suit all types. Don't know if there is an engine to do. Haven't played a crpg that uses horses. Assume there must be a problem.

As much as I like a good old school fantasy type cRPG, something with a sci-fi flavour has a certain appeal.

Ideally, it would have the strategy, realism and character interaction in Jagged Alliance and the settings, equipment, style and atmosphere of Syndicate, with a heavy sprinkling of RPG elements found in your more traditional RPGs. That Strike Squad game released about 10 years ago, I think, was the only game that tried to capture that (and failed miserably because it was unplayable due to bugs). But boy was it a great idea. Deus Ex comes close, but I am more keen on "party" games rather than "solo main characters".
