At the very begining of the game when getting the Driyads Acorns in the Irenicus Dungeon I found a broken sword on one of the dwarves. Does it have any use? Also on a unrelated note what does the chapel key from the Windspear Hill do?

Pretty much any parts of weapons will likely have other parts that you can find later in the game, so hold onto it. I know the pommel gem of the Equalizer is in that trap-filled room just past the Dyrads...but you don't get the rest of the sword parts until late in the game. Also, be sure to hang onto any and all keys until you're sure you've used it....even then, try to keep it with one of your characters just in case.

Non magical weapons do break at times. So if the icon is dull grey, you can assume its worthless junk. If there is any color or contrast to it, assume it's a useful item and keep it.

If you've finished Windspear, you don't need the key any longer; it opens a door in there, but I've heard that the developers accidentally made the door pickable and bashable...

[IMG] I've been lugging around that broken sword, too. I thought it was related to the pommel gem. Is this broken sword worthless? And what about the wooden stakes I've been holding onto forever?

[IMG] When/where do they come in play?

I've been carrying so much shit - broken swords, stakes, letters, notes, gems, broken bows, keys I never know if I've already used or not, blah blah blah - that I'm afraid to store away anything for fear I will suddenly need it.

I can't believe that sword is worthless. Why even put it in the game? Rat bastards!

Weapons break randomly AFAIK so if a monster had a weapon and it broke, you'd find it in the inventory.

Stakes come in handy for Vampires in certain situations...

Gems (aside from some of the rarer ones which have other uses) should be sold for gold.

Letters and notes you don't usually need; the ones you do, you should know (like the one to get into Mae'Var's guild).

I only know of one key that is used in a different place from where it was found and it gives you hints about that in its description.

Well those broken swords have been around since BG1... So they just throw it in for some extra fun. Hehe.
You'll need stakes to permanantly put vampires to sleep.
As for keys... I suggest you find a container you won't forget and store all of them in there. So if you happen to need one some day you won't have to worry about whether you threw it away. You'll know exactly where all of them are and just go pick it up...
Same goes for any other stuff you suspect might be worth keeping, but don't want to lug around with you all the time.

[IMG] Yeah, I've been storing some stuff in a barrel outside Copper Coronet (shhh - don't tell anyone). I just didn't want to end up stuck at a door in the Underdark or wherever and have to go all the way back to town for a single key, or suddenly find the guy who can repair the sword and have to trek back for it, so I've been lugging around everything, everything that could be possibly useful, dreaming about bags of holding and key rings.

You should see the number of scrolls I have - sheesh! I think I've cast maybe a half-dozen spells from scrolls (I just never think of using them, or potions), so I have two scrollcases full of them and a barrel full of them. Aerie carries almost nothing but scrolls, got magic missiles coming out of her shiny elfin ass. If anyone gets a torch near her, she's going to go up like a paper mache tinderbox.

But this has been helpful, Tal & Black.

Now if you'll excuse, I've got to drop a load at the Coronet.

I store my stuff in a container in my stronghold. The barrel is a good idea though.

There are 3 tables in the waukeen's promenade. I store stuff into the table that is in the middle. I have all the wand keys there.
    And here goes a question...
What do you do with the bloody wand keys from Irenicus' Dungeon?!

  14. Sorl Guest

You simply reload a game before exiting the dungeons, go back to the big hall which lead to the smithey, the room with little kid, which would later turn on you and that room with the vampire. Then use the keys to disarm the traps you seem to have jumped over (one trap for every key, if your a looser you will have exess traps if your a cheater you will have exess keys). Each key will succumb to a wonderful transformation.

But beware!!! Some of these items are NOT politically correct and will lead to hot flames from certains participants of this forum if you admit to using them.

[IMG] Bleh. Melee is for fighters and paladins, not mages. Whoever heard of a mage going head-first into battle? For what? Only to be hacked in half by some huge warrior's two handed sword while he fumbles in his robes for his pointy little dagger?

True mages take the advantage their knowledge of magic brings them. If it means that they can use wands, that much better. Warriors are too stupid to know how to use them, so who will, if not they?

[IMG] Just wondering if anyone else here has read the Raymond E. Feist view of why you don't use mages in combat. For those of you who don't know it is this :- "First mage throws spell, second mage throws counterspell, Third Mage helps First Mage, Fourth Mage helps Second Mage, and then army comes in and chops them all up while they're throwing magic around.

Of course this doesn't really happen in Baldur's Gate but I thought it would be funny. :)

[IMG] Heh... Then you just have to make sure your side has one more mage than your opposition. :)
