Is it legal to install Infinity Engine games on multiple computers you own?

    I was under the impression that most software is licensed with the idea of "one copy, one computer". Yet somebody told me I could install the Baldur's Gate games on two computers I own and play with a friend on my LAN.

    I don't recall having to enter a unique product key for the game, so would it work, using the same CDs? How many can I put it on legally and how many will the game let me use?
    I've got four systems available, but only three can go on the LAN (the other being a 300mhz NEC Ready 440T laptop that lacks a NIC. With only 96mb of RAM it is probably only good for BG1 or IWD1). Currently, the games are installed on my oldest working Windows tower, and have since I got them around 2003.

    Normally the license allows you to install on multiple computers, but only use the software on one at a time. Thus the CD-in-the-drive copy protections - you can run only as many instances as you have valid CD media.

    That's fine, and I'm glad that I didn't do anything wrong a couple years back when I installed BG1 on an ancient laptop that somebody gave me so I could use Word on the go. It couldn't connect to the internet (no Ethernet, no Wi-Fi, only a built-in 56K modem and I haven't had a dial-up ISP since early 2002), and I could only play on one computer at a time.
